Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Upstream Employees Under 35. What odds do you give yourself to retire with Shell

During Avanti and Re-shape, it seemed like a lot of folks in the 40s and 50s got f-ed over when it came to retirement benefits etc. It doesn't seem like a carrot anymore.

What percentage chance do you give yourself lasting 25+ years to get those benefits?

0% just putting the exit plan in place. I’m done.

Shell has no idea what it’s doing or what it wants to be. Leadership is poor, moral is worse. It’s dying of wokeness, lost in its own virtue signaling.

0% - hired into Shell in 2007 in my early 30s thinking it was going to be the last employer I ever work for. Site divested this year after Shell essentially lied and said it was going to be part of one of its chemical and products parks. Basically got fu---d out of my pension. Frankly, I'm really happy that I'm going to be a Pemex employee by the end of the year...happy to work for a company that knows what it is and what it wants to do. Fu-k Shell. Maybe it will figure out what it wants to be at some point. Until then, it will flounder and reorganize itself to death: most have no chance of reaching retirement with this company at this point.

A lot of the management left in Permian after Avanti are the ones that do nothing but sk dk. They have no other talent.

Reshape burned my goodwill for the company. The moment I get a better offer elsewhere I'm gone. There's no reward for loyalty. I know plenty of technical peers who have been held back from promotions for YEARS and responsibility is getting pushed down to lower and lower job grades.

The only thing going for Shell is that the rest of the industry, and outside the industry, seems even worse!

"I've seen a lot of people on this forum say to just kiss a$$ and collect the pay, but I'm over it"

Good for you. You have my respect cause those a$$lickers are what has ruined this company.

0%. Shell no longer needs people with a petroleum engineer background in ~10 more years. The business model will be less oil and gas focus. They will just find someone cheap (mechanical engineer etc) to continue the production of existing assets for the next 30 years and sell the assets before the end of field life.

Shiiiiiit! Don’t ever drink the koolaid and think you will be here forever. We are all replaceable and it won’t take long for your replacement to tread water in whatever job you have. More likely to get struck by lightning than successfully retire from any O&G company

From below "I can't bring myself to S the D's that need to be S'ed in order to stay, so definitely 0%"

  • Honestly, this sums it up for me too. I won't give the horrendous massively biased managers the praise and coffees they think they deserve. I know it seals my fate, but I guess I have too much dignity. I've seen a lot of people on this forum say to just kiss a$$ and collect the pay, but I'm over it.

0%. Too many risks involved to assets, company and industry.

The new plan pays out lump sum for pension, so that’s a plus.

As long as I don’t get laid off during a year like 2008 or 2020, should be able to find something else.
