Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Employees running their own businesses during office hours

We have Ford employees running their own businesses during office hours, while getting paid by Ford. This is not something that started with WFH, but I am sure there are more people doing it now. That gives you an idea of how much actual work is done at Ford, and why we keep hiring more people.

I agree with the author of this post [ @1djs+1c18p4P9 ] and I think there are more and more such cases. The question is why? The reason is certainly not that they are particularly pleased with this company.

There is no such thing as lost productivity at Ford. It's all about your cost to the bottom line. If these types of employees cost less than the average, they would stay in an involuntary. If they cost more, they would go. It's that simple people.

This statement that was previously posted is spot on.

"Unethical people steal. Unethical people look for excuses to justify their behavior.
Ethical people honor their employment agreement 40 hours work-40 hours pay. "

To add there's some real sharp LL5, LL6, Engineers... at Ford but a large percentage are over paid, lazy with astronomical ego's going all the way back to the 70's especially the ones were their first job was Ford.

Agree they should be involuntarily separated or perhaps be forced to move to a job where they are watched all day , maybe put them on the line at a plant if they want to stay employed.

And those are the people who should get the involuntary separations. Head count is cut and Ford saves money with no loss in productivity. The additional plus is that moral among the hard working improves when slackers and cheaters are disposed of.

Why? Because they can. And they can because of the "management" at Ford. Most of them are favorites of their LL5/6s and can do anything they like.

For the rest of them, that are actually hiding from management, they can get away with it because managers have not clue of how to do the actual work. Employees lie to them and get away with it.

Times have past when someone experienced was promoted to manager. Those managers knew how to do the tasks and how long would it take each of them, so nobody could fool them. However, they were the first to be kicked out from Ford. Maybe because they put other managers' ignorance (even higher positioned ones) in evidence?

Thanks

Really what does Ford think is going to happen when year after year they threaten people's livelihoods. People are going to start up side hussles to make sure they protect themselves. I personally don't have a side business but hey, maybe I should figure one out because honestly, who knows when my number will come up as all of ours will eventually.

Nothing new - this has been going on for decades. Any large company has this problem - but it has gotten worse with the "WFH" trend.

Haha!! We have one of those scammers too in our department. We're not exactly sure what he does or where he goes, but during his work day there is no way he is doing all Ford company related work. And our guy does it all while driving a company test car and hauling personal stuff in it. Every. Single. Day. But here is the thing, we're only allowed to have a company test car for like 12 overnights including weekends. Our guy keeps the same car every single day and night. How you ask? He has diabolical methods to scam FMS. Hey its free gas, insurance, and we'll, its free! Even more curious is he gets away with it during the pandemic when hardly anyone is going to supplier visits or we'll, anywhere!
HR knows about it and does nothing. LL5 knows about it and does nothing. LL6 knows about it and we think aids him in the scam or at minimum helps him cover it up. Numerous people report it and nothing happens.
If you want to thrive and keep your job at Ford and not worry about getting an involuntary, become a scammer. It's proven to work, I've seen it.

The reason some of us care is these people are occupying a Ford position and not doing the work Ford pays them to do. Then Ford releases people who are actually doing work instead of releasing the people who are effectively stealing from the company.

We have a guy who is literally running his restaurant while being paid by Ford (physically at the restaurant every day but Monday - you must page him before he will logon). The LL6 and LL5 know this. To top it all off the guy charges OT if he works in the evening or on the weekend due to a deadline. So to recap he is actually “working” on Monday from 7am - 3pm; he does not work for Ford TWTFSS unless there is a deadline- then he works offshift and collects OT. 8 hours of “work” for 40 hours of pay. Theft pure and simple.

Unethical people steal. Unethical people look for excuses to justify their behavior.
Ethical people honor their employment agreement 40 hours work-40 hours pay.

Why - I have two other questions: Why do you care, or better yet why not? They could be bored, lack challenges & real work, need the money, could be using it as an opportunity to improve their skills and/or marketablilty for life after Ford (either voluntary or forced retirement),. I’m they have good reasons regardless.

If this company wasn’t such a shithole, no one would be doing this anyway, Ford is reaping what they have sowed in the past - if they hadn’t mis managed the company for so many years or displayed even a smigin of loyalty to their staff, things would be different.
