I recently left Optum - I had a role selling Medicare plans to members of SNFs. Let me just say this: I have never been treated so poorly as an employee in my life. I worked my tail off for this organization for years and all they did was ask for me. I watched them cut out benefits / lower commissions / cancel annual meetings etc…. All the while treating their sales force with disrespect. UNH is a huge conglomerate that will continue to do well but if behave lost all respect for the Optum brand. Leadership only looking out for themselves. Everyone chasing a title hoping they’re not chopped next. So glad to be done with that awful place.

My experience was for worse working for UnitedHealth's Optum in a licensed quality of care role, which is how I noticed the pattern of harm being done to patients (victims) targeted for their Medicaid benefits.
I used forensic data to protect thousands of developmentally delayed (DD) kids & adults from UnitedHealth contracted MDs inflicting physical & emotional harm solely for profit. UnitedHealth/PacifiCare was the fiscal intermediary (FI) for Orange County California’s Healthcare Agency. Acting as an agent of Orange County, UnitedHealth/PacifiCare was paid a fee by Orange County (Calif) Healthcare Agency to ‘assess’ each victim, which was the pretense used to pre-authorized knowingly false claims to the MDs based on a fictitious Axis I diagnosis that UnitedHealth/PacifiCare added to developmentally disabled victims’ Medicaid records (CMS). The scheme to do so includes fraudulent inter-rater reliability testing and training (which is documented as fraudulent to target those specific victims in UnitedHealth/PacifiCare internal e-mails).
Then, as the laundering method, the MDs' abuses was twofold: (1) The MDs resubmitted the false claims for payment with that fictitious diagnoses month after month for years. To do so, required more frauds to camouflage that medical control frauds’ systemic profiteering (2) To try to make the frauds look legitimate, as long as no one took time to understand each victim’s medical history and actual treatment/care needs, MD’s inflicted physical harm by prescribing knowingly contraindicated care and kept reporting the fraudulent diagnosis in order to keep submitting false claims and also prevent the patients from getting behavioral services from the Regional Center of Orange County that they need instead.
The scheme was also to benefit the Regional Center of Orange County (RCOC) because their Medicaid contract was paying RCOC to provide the care being obstructed by the fraud scheme of UnitedHealth/PacifiCare and Orange County. RCOC’s honest service fraud was very lucrative too by its submitting false claims/being paid contractually for services it help to obstruct maliciously.
My protecting enough patients by reversing the frauds in their protected health information reverberated through the fraud scheme and revealed it began with executives at regional Center in Orange County, CA and UnitedHealth/PacifiCare. The medical director at RCOC was furious that I understood the scheme by listening to the victims’ family members’ complaints about the barriers to needed care. Unbeknownst to me at the time, that scheme coincided with this fraud scheme already discovered by the FBI/DOJ:
https://californiahealthline.org/morning-breakout/orange-county-doj-investigates-health-care-agency-for-possible-billing-fraud/
One frauds scheme involving conspiracy could be denied as innocent mistakes. However, If the FBI/DOJ knew of the Medicaid medical control frauds targeting DD children in time, their investigation of the OC health care agency’s concurrent Medical control fraud’s coding scheme and DOJ’s separate concurrent investigation of the FI (UnitedHealth/PacifiCare) should have expanded probably and likely had different outcomes by the combined scope, duration and cruelty of the FI’s frauds targeting DD children and the history of systemic corruption and civil rights abuses by OC leadership. UnitedHealth/PacifiCare contract with the OC leadership is an example of that paradoxical corruption. OC leadership contractually created a conflict of interest, by which the FI’s Medicaid false claims were inevitable and used for other schemes than targeting DD children. OC leadership’s fiduciary breach is so paradoxical that their intent to create an un-monitored contractual conflict of interest beneficial to the FI is like a gift of a US mint printing press to forgers.
Obviously, I had no way to knowing of the scope and hierarchy of the organized crimes when I began protecting the victimized DD patients one at a time, which required mandated reporting. Due to the pattern of corruption that began to emerge and be documented by my mandated reporting, UnitedHealth/PacifiCare retaliated. I was attacked violently and injured so catastrophically that I could not resume work and I was expected to die from the injuries combined with UnitedHealth blacklisting me ever since from emergently needed medical care to try to ensure I die from the retaliation. However, the ‘hit’ backfired and I unexpected survived, and the forensics of the ongoing revenge exposes UnitedHealth’s racketeering more than the RCOC fraud scheme.
