Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Does Oxy IT dept reflects what’s going on with the company

Totally chaos and tickets that never close. Nobody seems to really care. The good professionals we used to have were smart enough to take the VSP. No direction and low morale. The few remaining are overworked and demotivated.

Leaving OXY was the smartest move I’ve made as a professional. I pity any APC folk still around. IT “management” does not know how to manage IT professionals, they only know how to manage off shored / outsourced help desk crews. Hence the complete lack of IT competence. Any professionals left long ago and all you have now are actual help desk crews who understand nothing about the business and care even less than that.

After all this time, all the disasters and all the turnover of anyone remotely good at their job, people still don't get what Oxy is. There really is no fixing some people.

I'm an unapologetic Oxy cheerleader, but I'm ashamed to say I agree with this post. IT is a dumpster fire. Most of the time, the help desk kicks a problem back to local support, who couldn't solve the problem in the first place and told me to submit a ticket. It's a circular train wreck. I've been with the company over 10 years, and IT has yet to solve a single problem for me (I guess you could say they have a perfect record?).

It’s true - nobody’s making sure tickets get closed anymore. But there’s a great marketing video that was created to show all the things the IT group can do. Your leadership has their priorities straight.
