Experience is no longer an asset here. It used to be that the longer you were here, the more respected you were. We used to have management that knew years with the company meant you had the kind of knowledge that was considered irreplaceable. These days it's the other way around. The longer you've been here, the less respected you are. Your experience means higher pay which means you need to be cut for excess expenses. That is our sad reality.

Experience means nothing here. HA has no database Engineering experience. She hired DS from a second tier consulting firm to run Engineering??? The blind leading the blind. There are so many better companies to work for. I just accepted an offer from Snowflake.
The longer you're there, the bigger drain you are on any needed change. So many dinosaurs get in the way and refuse to do anything that is different than they have done for the past 20yrs. It's time for the old folks home.
Teradactyl
The longer we are here the less 'relevant experience we have. It saddens me.
Do you need to know how to change a 'valve' on the radio from the 1900s?
Do you need to know how to use a Nokia 3310?
Our skills are becoming very niche/irrelevant ... someone might pay for them, but only through legacy need (Fortran, Machine Code, COBOL). All great skills that do demand a great $$$ - in the right context.
If you want to progress your career and don't want to be a Teradactyl then make the transition. There are many great options out there and if you have the skills - DS, SA, DE - now is the time to move...
