Unfortunately, I still haven't been able to find an alternative and I feel ashamed that I'm still here. Very often I see pity in people’s eyes when I tell them I work at Macy’s and it doesn’t surprise me at all. This should be the last option where anyone would have to work. I hope to leave as soon as possible.

If you that embarrassed get off your lazy a-s, get yourself another job. Macy’s is not forcing you to work there.
I'm embarrassed. So are my in-laws, apparently. We were at a party and I was telling one of their relatives that I work at Macy's and my MIL leaned over and said "It's just a summer job!" and I'm like dude, I've worked there for seven years...... But yeah I'm ashamed, especially considering my education level. It's too late for me to turn things around, so I'm just gonna wait to either get fired or die.
When I started applying I was told that it takes about a month of relentless applying and interviewing for every $10k you want to make in salary. Don’t give up - I know it seems like nothing is moving along, but it is and it will all come together for you. Keep applying and interviewing; the right opportunity for you will come up so long as you don’t stop looking for it.
There are opportunities out there. It just takes allot of effort when you’re not at work. No matter how tired you are. I purposely pushed my resume and applied / interviews for various positions 3 months straight outside of retail. I got lucky and was fired by an amazing privately owned company. And it’s been such a dramatic turn in a year and a half. Granted i got out right before Covid. But opportunities are still strong depending on where you look and things are picking up especially in medical. Just work on selling yourself and your abilities the same way you market and sell Macy’s products. It takes 3 months or more. But that’s expected. I’m hearing people are getting hired faster now though.
The customers where I work are sad for themselves that Macy’s is closing stores and feel like the store they are in will close next. I tell them maybe it will and I don’t know. They don’t care about me.
it was once a good place to work with a livable salary and now its just hunger games for the CEO and crew and investors.. the stock numbers are not true numbers...macys isn't making money its only a lil bit above water.. so this is why they are eying up all the people who cost money to flush them out by overworking them to sheer and utter death and trying to nail them on fake customer complaints and not getting things done while you have to much to do .. you see how the get you out with out severance?
