Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

"If you don't like it quit"

How many times have you heard that sentence?

I can’t believe they say that to their employees. They don't seem to understand that the point is not for people to quit, but that the point of their job is to get the best out of people and do everything they can to improve this company. However, no problem, since they told me to quit, I will quit.

Managers are the most lazy and dishonest employees the UP has

I use to tell my managers that they didn’t fire the employees, they fired their self’s by not following the rules. When someone came into my office and threatened to quit, I couldn’t slide the resignation over quick enough.

I am so tired of hearing managers tell me how hard they work and u see them in the office or in a UP truck at local restaurants eating how hard of a job it is... they all get treated like garbage and it will continue until they understand that they are a manager only because they cannot do the job of an agreement employee

Yeah Mr manager. Try wrapping around 118 intermodal cars by yourself in -20 degree weather because they cut the two other Carmen you used to have to help you, then tell me about how difficult your job was.

just quit is their typical reply which is to shut you up. we want no opinion, constructive criticism, or ideas from you. I am the boss of you. just do what i say. well, I like that. Thats when you really get your medicine smart-ss.

Well plenty of people have quit and spread the word about the company. That’s why Union Pacific is consistently rated the lowest on Glassdoor and has the reputation it has. They actually used to be able to recruit some smart people from respected schools. Not anymore. Somebody will always take the job because people are always needing a job, but UP isn’t a place people aspire to work for anymore.

Lol perfect example of bad management and nobody doing anything about it. Eagle pass tx depot in the past 20 years tons and tons of managers have gone through the revolving door becoming managers. First college guys right out of graduation ceremony. Now guys from the ground. Guess what. Nobody sticks around. They all quit or go back to their seniority. I laugh cuz the common denominator is the director is a di-k he is the only one who has stuck around and Omaha or san Antonio won't do a thing about replacing him . Usually directors or upper management dont last in a spot so long .well he has .probably his own decision. Cuz he knows he wouldn't make it in any other terminal or location.

If I quit who else would make my director's and any suck @ss manager's lives a living he-l? I want them to be as miserable as they make their workers. Treat people how you would want to be treated. Well since you lay us off, beat us down, underman us, treat us like numbers instead of people, tell us our safety matters unless it costs too much....now I know how to treat you.

I’ve seen what they do to managers there, and consequently I have no desire to climb the ranks.

Wut??? Someone promoted to manager then came back to their craft? I thought everyone on here was lazy and had manager envy? I mean thats why the exec’s were discussing making all who promoted to management would have to relinquish their seniority right? Hiring inexperienced people off the street to management positions is bcuz those jobs are so enviable right?

How do you know the managers are riding around all day doing nothing? We’re you riding along with them? Being a manager with UP is a terrible job and not worth what you are put through. I was an agreement employee that took a manager job for 6 years. I worked harder and longer hours with the manager position. I was on call and constantly called about any and everything going on and never had a good nights sleep. At least when agreement employees are off they aren’t constantly called and woke up. I went back to the agreement ranks a couple of years ago and I am much happier. I am glad for the experience as I now can see things from both perspectives, but I would not go back to management.

There once was a time out here, where managers would say that and no one would seriously imagine quitting. One might bid off, transfer, but no one would quit. Was a time when most railroaders didnt have any college education and the pay was much more than they’d make anywhere else. Congrats to Fritz & team, you’ve crossed the precipice. The compensation is no longer worth the aggravation. Good luck to all who’ve quit, may your courage and self respect take you to greener pastures.

Is that comment coming from the 2 managers that ride around all day together, doing absolutely nothing?
