Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Many pinned their hopes on being recalled?

I'm just wondering if these people who were ruthlessly cut, and later called in again, were at least offered the same pay and other basic working conditions that they had before?

I really need a job because I haven't been able to find a new one yet, but I don't hope to be recalled. I would accept it because I am in an unenviable situation, but I believe a lot of people would not accept a job at UP ever again even if they had no other options.

If you are in management you can make more money working multiple fast food jobs if you put in the same hours you do at UP.

Do you think the UP is better than any minimum wage job? I sure don't! People are unhappy with the UP, and many are looking elsewhere for work. For some, the choice to move on was easier than it sounded. Taking any job to avoid the stress, ridicule, constant threats, deceptive practices, lying, unfair policies, unrealistic work deadlines, and just the plain toxicity of that place, to me seems like a no-brainer. I left after 20+ years, and I haven't regretted it at all. I really thought it was going to be difficult, but it wasn't. Yeah I took a lower paying job. I no longer deal with the everyday BS of working for the UP.

I would say go back while still looking for other employment opportunities. I don’t agree with the other poster that a minimum wage job is better than working for UP, that depends on your financial situation and is something only you can decide. Good luck.

Ok here we go again. If you're having a hard time finding other employment after being furloughed, then take the job if you get called back. It's really that simple. Stop beating yourself up over employment issues if you have something offered to you. If you take the job back, then keep looking for something else while you're earning a paycheck. Others haven't had a hard time finding other work. I was furloughed just like many others. I was fortunate enough to find another job. I was called to come back, but I declined just to avoid the stress. Any job is still better than no job. Also a minimum wage job is still better than a UP job.
