Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

When did you lose respect for UP and its leadership?

Was it when we were having major layoffs one after another while the company was doing great and showing better results than ever? Or was it when they continued cutting essential people despite the increasing number of derailments and accidents? Or was it something else? I'm curious to learn what was the tipping point for you.

When they adopted PSR. Lance flip-flopped on it. It was a grave mistake. Everyone knows it was a mistake.

I left when I realized the general director that I reported to was an unethical mo--n. I caught him openly lying and trash talking his direct reports in an attempt to make himself look better to his own id--t boss. He was completely incompetent as a leader. This is the same guy that dated a subordinate while he worked at Streamline and never disclosed it and then let her take the fall once the relationship came to light. That's UP's IT leadership for ya folks.

When we started cutting jobs when we were making record profits. We could have f grown to be so much more than we are now. We’re on the verge of losing UPS because our on time delivery is so bad because we don’t have enough power, yet we have hundreds of units stored to make the numbers look better

When they started complaining about providing coffee for crews coming on duty from the hotels. Lol. You’re a fortune 200 company bi-----g about providing some coffee grounds to an engineer about to take your payload somewhere for 12 hours. Can you spare 25 cents to help keep everyone awake? Please master.

When they started spending millions on that stupid, useless steam lcvomotive program while at the same time cutting hundreds of jobs and closing shops and yards.
Everywhere that thing went in 2019 job cuts and facility closings followed right behind it.

All managers are YES man stooges and are puppets they can’t think for themselves...the only company where management are not trained to have people skills they think they know it all

When every meeting before work sounded like a high pressure sales pitch for an unwanted timeshare. Also, when I got written up for "Not following instructions" because I refused to enter fake repairs to boost our numbers.

There’s not just one time, they lower the bar for themselves every few months. Promote yes men, find the least competent person for a job then put them in it. Telling actually good employees to leave if they even remotely suggest how to change or make it less $hitty here. Preaching safety but not caring about safety. Not firing Fritz. Not firing half the executives. There are so many.

Manager envy? I was with the RR for 21 years, and NEVER heard anyone talk about a manager nicely. The only ones I hear complain and blame others ARE the managers!! Did you understand that?

I like it when they keep lazy, incompetent people who only know how to complain, blame others, and have manager envy.

The last straw was when they started virtue signalling about diversity & inclusion. Racism, sexism, etc should be fought by every single individual being taught to treat everyone else how they themselves want to be treated. Large, powerful organizations like UP from the top down needs to concentrate on treating all employees like we are also Americans with families and lives. Don't point your finger at "society" and paint a locomotive, INSTEAD of fairly sharing the wealth with the people who actually sweated to create it. Don't tell employees to "if you don't like it quit" either, accept the responsibility as leaders and do the right thing.
