My first sales job was selling stuff nobody needed .. I was hired on a whim stayed for 3.5 years which is about the time when i get burned out from selling.. in that time frame we had managers in every dept. , security on front door, 4 sales managers and one store manager. by the end of my time at this company there was no sales managers left. only dept. managers ( leads/ captains ) front door security was replaced by security cameras , sales guys had to do security as well as store manager. we had to lock all high end stuff in the basement in a cage that can only be open by 2 people.. every sat and Sunday was super bizzy.. I walk thru my old job later.. No front door security , no more sales managers , barley anyone working and nobody in the store... the company shifted most of its biz online and into warehouses.. Now after working at macys I can see the exact same thing happening... only store manager , one ops/receiving unload the truck guy. no Customers anymore and store is completely dead. they laid off secuity, sales managers, only had two dept managers and one receiving/ops .. you see what i see ?

Some Macy’s aren’t that bad but they are not good either. Many days in the dept. I work in we have 1 opener and 1 closer. Sounds good but it’s not because the shifts are usually 10-6 and then 5-9 or 10-2 and then 1-9. Other depts. don’t have anyone the whole day so we are taking care of their customers too. Central checkout could help.
