Boeing doesn’t always lay off people because there is a lack of work. Layoffs are generally motivated because they want to replace older workers with cheaper younger workers. The other motivation is they want to lay off in Washington state where there is a union and hire in South Carolina where there is not.

It’s very difficult to get promoted past a level two in South Carolina which is what they want. With no union nothing to prevent this. Never promote and either lay them off as they get older or leave on their own.

The company doesn’t look past six months or a year.

Layoffs will continue until morale improves. They are simply laying off in Washington state and then later hiring in South Carolina because they want to destroy the union. Employment levels in Washington state are going to continue to go down.

They just issue some WARNs notice to engineers/tech (in SPEEA) in BDS (Defense side) last month May. More to come since BA is still bleeding cash to fix many deficiencies in both Commercial and Military programs.
