Thread regarding GE Aviation layoffs

How big of a career turn did you have to make?

Getting laid off was very hard on me because I loved my job so much. After that, I couldn’t find any similar job for a long time and I had to make a career u-turn and accept a job in a completely different industry. I’m glad to hear all the positive stories about people who have found very similar jobs, but unfortunately that wasn't my experience.

I have been laid off or otherwise terminated a couple times over my longish career. Always ended up by making more. 1st time was the biggest jump at 2.5 times my previous hourly rate.

I was never laid off although I laid off thousands. Not personally but I was responsible for the demise of 10% of my employees yearly. I was exalted, extremely rich, and have books to advise others how to send others to the unemployment line. I retired with hundreds of millions of dollars. You might think, "Wow, what a lucky person!" But now I am shoveling coal 24/7.
