Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Who are the least respected employees at Aramco?

This is a company where you can make good money (until they show you the door) and where you can lose all self respect. I got an offer to move to another company and I accepted without much thought because I am almost certain that there is no company in which those who work the most are less valued. Those who work the most and on whom a lot of things depend on get the least recognition for their efforts.

Maybe want to guess again! And it Roger you illiterate c@nt! It usually helps if you’re trying to insult someone that you spell the name right!!

For the record I “retired” with a few million dollars of “your” money in my overseas bank account having milked you for all your worth and having given you less than $10 of value for my presence.

Just about sums up your ineptitude really.......

Least respected in KSA are the laborers, by far. Yard crews and the like remind me of the old southern state prison chain gangs of yesteryear. When I would see those boys it would make realize just how fortunate my lot in life was.

Least respected are those originally on Asian payroll. Contrary to expectations, racism is rife within the company.

"I am almost certain that there is no company in which those who work the most are less valued"

That was probably the most accurate thing I have ever read about Aramco on this board! Those who work hard doing complex, detail oriented work get ZERO RESPECT. That is why I left, and I don't think I'm alone. If you MUST join the company, here is some advice:

  1. If you aren't getting face time with the VP, your hard work will go completely unrecognized. If your boss keeps telling you that you have been recommended for a E+ or promotion, and you haven't met your VP, you are getting played. The VP decides everything. Insist that you be brought to VP meetings or give as little information as possible to your boss. Don't give your boss everything in exchange for a "recommendation" that will go nowhere.
  2. If you send work to another department, expect that it will be copy -> pasted into to one of their presentations, and you will get ZERO recognition unless something is wrong. Always send over the only the minimum necessary to satisfy your job description and put some disclaims about no being responsible for anything else.
  3. If you work hard, other people will try to get you to do their work for them. This is especially true if you are responsible for incorporating their input into your work. They will tell you to put something together and then they will check it over. Either that, or they send over some junk that doesn't make sense, and you have to try to sort it out. The best approach is not to accept anything that doesn't fit your specifications EXACTLY. Put together an input template if you have to, but don't accept a pile of garbage.
  4. If you are acting in a support role to another department, expect no communication followed by a phone call with a last minute request for a crazy amount of work. That is why support areas like Technical Services and Finance were the two worst SVP areas to work in. Expect your management to throw you under the proverbial bus if you push back directly with the other department. A better approach is to ask the requestor to summarize what they are asking of you in an email. Say you will share that with your management and get back to them. People tend to be more reasonable over email. Plus, if they are calling you directly, it is probably because they knew they are being unreasonable.
  5. If you push back against an unreasonable deadline or a crazy task handed to you by your boss, you will be seen as a problem employee. It is far better to accept the work without comment and then just let the problems reveal themselves as time goes on. Too many people mistakenly assume that logical explanation will put things right.
  6. There is no need to work longer than your boss. Five minutes after he leaves, you leave, even if you have a close of business deadline. The next day, you simply say that you didn't finish. Overtime isn't much of thing at Aramco, but once they find out you will do it, they will ride you like a camel.

Commit these six rules to memory. Seriously! They will make the time you are at Aramco more tolerable.

The Least-Respected employee is anyone who is not a well-connected PDP.
