Thread regarding Fossil Inc. layoffs

I despise working here

The stress has become too much for me. I am well aware of the fact that grass isn't always greener, but I'll be willing to take that chance as soon as an opportunity presents itself. This company is sinking fast and I don't want to be around for the next and inevitable major round of cuts.

I’m having to work 50 - 60 hrs / week, every week, with absolutely zero recognition for my efforts - not even a “thank you” from the department head. It is simply expected. Time to call this ballgame!

I received the dreaded brown folder in 2015 (when IT was outsourced to Infosys) on my 14th employment anniversary.

I immediately received a job offer (for 17K per year LESS but within my acceptable range), followed by a very generous offer from Infosys (offering almost what I was making at the time).

Without hesitation, I took the lower offer and left the company because everything I was seeing during the transition was telling me that the Fossil I knew and loved was not-so-slowly disappearing.

I left and the grass is greener! Life is too short to be in misery there!

Former Fossil employee. Worked there almost a decade. In my last 3 or so years there, I felt just like you.

I made the leap and left on my own terms last year for a new opportunity. My happiness and my motivation have since gone through the roof. If I’d known I could be so much happier I would’ve left sooner.

If your mental state is that bad, please do something about it. There’s no guarantee it’ll be better at a new job, but you have to take care of yourself and at least try. I wish you the best of luck.

The only challenge at Fossil is attempting to avoid the vindictive nature of those that were PLACED into management.
Future employers of Accounting personnel beware!

@gaga sounds like management! If you’re not already a manager, welcome to the fast lane at Fossil! You’re doing it right!
Unfortunately it’ll be a hard lesson if you ever go to another company. Good luck with that attitude. 😂
The only challenge at Fossil is the management.
And don’t dare challenge the management! 😂

Sheesh, Gaga, I hope you never wake up one day and realize the job have to psych yourself up to go to looks nothing like the job you used to love. I’m guessing that hasn’t happened to you...yet. And when it does, I hope you run into someone with more empathy than yourself. But congrats on your not so humble brag of being a hardass, I guess. Also, I’m thinking you are misusing the word snowflake. We know that word to refer to someone who’s entitled. What it doesn’t refer to is someone who’s been putting in the work and has slowly become disillusioned over time by poor management.
As for the OP, it’s ok to leave a job that makes you miserable. You don’t need anyone’s permission; just be smart about it and do as much research as you can. Best of luck to you.

@1vnm+1bljZI0o hit the nail on the head!

Same scenario here but with a different twist to it. I'm a happy former employee who will happily avoid putting my time at Fossil on my resume should I seek other professional building opportunities in the future.

@1vnm+1bljZI0o Has some great words of advice and understands how leadership and guidance works.

I'm also a former employee that got laid off and has moved onto another blossoming company. Reach out on Linkedin and connect, you'd be surprised how many companies in the DFW are hiring.

Hey, former employee here! During my time at Fossil, I was constantly passed up for promotion, ignored by management and every effort I made to help was met with incredulity. I was so unhappy and even began to doubt my instinct and ability. Months after being laid off last July, I landed at a Fortune 50 company and I’ve already been promoted from my original hire role.

I know it’s a hard realization, but Fossil is dysfunctional. It is run by the inept and unqualified, whose only effort goes into protecting their jobs by surrounding themselves with mediocre, non-threats, rather than advancing the business.

Take a look at LinkedIn, see where fellow disenfranchised employees have ended up and reach out. My story is not uncommon - the talented and bright have exited the building and are making real contributions in competitive, vigorous and forward-looking companies. Head for the exit, friend! You can do this!!!

all the magic, talent, and morale has of the former fossil been laid off. i cant stand the current management and my direct manager. telling me that i’m lucky to have a job or stick thru the “grit” while demoralizing is not the way of leadership. i miss the old fossil and the old leadership that got us to greatness. “new world” work through the sh*t management is awful and has no clue were to steer our teams.

There’s the prudent caution of not just jumping to “greener grass”, but then there’s coming to terms with the fact that the yard you’ve put so much work into is already dead.

Former long term employee here who left on my own; don’t “wait for an opportunity to present itself”, go get that opportunity!! As much as I liked most of my time at Fossil leaving was the best decision for me at the time. When you know it’s time, don’t delay your happiness. It’s not worth it. Best luck f luck!!

A job isn’t worth misery. If that’s the cause for your mental state, I’d recommend prioritizing your departure and spending more time applying and networking.

As a former long time employee that got laid off, it is sad to hear how things are at Fossil, however knowing who is currently running the department I was in after the restructuring, I am more than happy to not be there anymore! Hang in there, hope it gets better for you, or you manage to get a better job elsewhere.
