Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Purchased PTO and ins coverage

I purchased PTO - if I quit the company, can I cash out any of the remaining PTO hours? Also if I quit, does my health insurance coverage end on my last work day or until the end of the month? I heard some companies have health insurance coverage in place until the end of month, so if my last day were on the June 14th I still get covered until June 30

This is related by the state. So your state determines whether your paid or on PTO or not.

The boomer mindsets-they need really to go back to the nursing home. They are so desperate to get their slaves back to the office to save their commercial RE investments. More anti remote work propaganda--typical

PTO another american corporate gimmick. It’s kinda funny in a very sad way being a us corporate slave since they want you in the office so middle-management like directors, sups, and managers can micromanage you. But that same CEO, C classes are never there and you never see them because they’re out on their yacht or golf course all day.
“Offices are fun! Go back! They have pool table and game room, pizza party.... I’ll be back next week, taking my private jet to an island..."

PTO at United is GRANTED not earned so you get nothing if you leave. If purchased and unused you get paid back for that. You cannot use PTO during your notice either.

Why not have extensive employment rights and protections that protect working people, employees, those who get sick, etc...why does one have to pay for that "priveldge" out of their own resources?!

You will be paid for purchased PTO but you will lose any accumulated PTO offered by the company. Doesn't matter how much you have earned.

You can purchase up to 40 hours of PTO to use on top of whatever you normally accrue. The money is taken out of your paycheck spread throughout the year and if you don’t end up using it, they pay you back at the end of the year.

It’s a great option for people who have a lot of health issues or have major life events planned.

What the heck do you do that you have to purchase PTO. For me one of the positives of the UHG companies is the PTO. Oh and if you have been employed the last 10 years and participated in the employee stock purchase plan the other positive. Only 2 positives for me. The rest is a thumbs down.

that's unreal so they lord over your PTO hours and dictate what we can and can't do with our money.

I know one person who was in a layoff who had 115+ hrs of PTO accumulated (over 3 1/2 weeks), and they were allowed to be paid for only 1 week of what they had accrued. So they lost the other 2 weeks of PTO. So you'd only be able to take 1 week worth if you have it in your bank. That's it.

Yes your healthcare coverage would go through the end of the month. They cannot cancel coverage mid-month. I worked in an awful OptumRx department and a couple coworkers quit without any notice and did so the first week of a month so their health coverage would continue the entire month. Do not know about purchased PTO but I assume since you purchase it, it would be paid back.

They have to pay you back for the PTO you’ve purchased but whether they pay you for any unused granted PTO depends on your state of residence. That state specific information is on The Hub.

Best of luck!
