Last year they laid off so many experienced happy workers because they made too much per hour and this year they need to hire people for the same positions who are asking for a higher competitive hourly wage than the employees they laid off were making.

OMG just got back from the Macy’s at Garden State plaza NJ you manager’s better get your as--s out on that 3rd floor I would be ashamed if I still worked there clothes, piles of clothes thrown on the floor display tables of clothes and hangers all over, 2 sales people ringing the rest if you can find them are doing picks and on their phones.! Disgusting pig mess horrible, no one cares all the Good workers are GONE, close already you’re done . Glad I am gone.

We don’t need extended hours anymore. Most customers leave the malls when they close at 9:00. We are in friends and family and opened from 10 am until 10 pm. Most depts. have one person scheduled from 9:45 am until 6:00 pm and maybe a part-time person scheduled from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm.
New hires who accept a store position have to learn how to use the register and it can take several weeks to months to be on your own. During this learning period, stores can remain “short staffed”. Store employees and mostly sales associates use the register to do order fulfillment, preselling, clientelling, search and send, opening credits, enrolling in bronze, taking credit card payments, etc. These register functions are a part of how goals and numbers are made. A lot of employees who were laid off last year understood all of this but the stores let them go.
I was a first round layoff in June 2020 and when I would hear about others who got laid off I was often surprised at the choices because we were experienced, good workers. I would also hear about the ones that still had a job and that was often surprising too.
My store manager who told me the good news was laid off a week later.. talk about shooting the messagers'..
Some of the people who had the position and authority to deliver the bad news to the laid off people don’t work there anymore either.
