Thread regarding GE Aviation layoffs

OT

People should refuse OT so they will hire people who are struggling to feed their families that were laid off..but I know people won't refuse OT because we have a lot of greedy fu--s that work here.

Too much overtime can cause mental and physical issues. Just ask the health care folks 12 hr shift + 8 hr shift back to back equivalent to drunk driving

Don't worry. We have several snotty nosed, acne faced college kids doing a workout event. They will create more problems than solve. We will get further behind in no time and have to call back everyone. And then some. OT rates will triple and everyone will have new trucks.

If you were called back tomorrow, you would work all of the OT you could. You would not care about the others laid-off. It's a dog eat dog world. Unmerciful, voracious, and competitive. The GE way. Team Cutthroat.

You're not getting called back either way.....You can feed your family if you get a job or two and not worry about other people's pocket!

It’s a teaming environment. That is, until it’s every man for himself.

The other problem is “lean”. The business is under a lot of pressure to cut personnel. So when one or more employees take time off, it has to be covered with overtime. You can’t have “flexible” people to come from other processes to cover the job since that would leave their process open.

You are pointing out a serious situation and are absolutely right.
They could run this company and most others with 30-hour week and beyond a living wage on that alone.
But what to do with all that leisure is the question.
The masses might use that time for thinking!

You are absolutely correct. There are several employees who feel entitled to steady overtime and even slow down production to maintain it. But you can't blame those employees completely. Management is aware of it. Management allows it. Management hides behind a "self-directed workforce" culture to deflect blame. Management has their buddies and favorites whom they take care of and look the other way. In many other cases, especially during the second and weekend shifts, the inmates are running the asylum. Very little oversight.

If Sam "Ace" Rothstein was in charge he would tell these managers, "Listen, if you didn't know you're bein' scammed, you're too d-mb to keep this job. If you did know, you were in on it. Either way, you're out. Get out! Go on."
