Management doesn't know how to deal with slackers. So they let them sit with their cell phones, watch videos on their computers, and romp around singing and dancing. The work has to get done. That is where you come in. They shove the work on the hard workers. No promotion, raises or recognition.

OP @dnay+1b2tPc3v. I'm not so sure that managers don't know how to deal with slackers or it simply doesn't matter to them as long as all the work is done by others?

And it helps to be related to someone in a higher position. They take care of their own.
When has being promoted at NM ever been about hard work? I am not saying that everyone that has been promoted hasn't done some hard work but the people that always made it up the ranks were always a sort of "kiss a-s" to whoever was in power and many times the best people weren't in senior leadership positions. NM was always known as the place where you could work forever, hard to get fired. It is no longer like that anymore but now we have a new senior leadership thats a bit more cut throat than the past senior leadership but it's still the same BS if you want to move up the ranks. I don't think much as changed except there is no longer this "job for life" stuff. And the benefits got worse. I think they were able to fool alot of people with outstanding benefits at one time and the fact you never had to interview with another company. But it's really all the same BS, just being a hard worker isn't necessarily going to get you promoted. It just means you probably will keep your current job.
I was at the Franklin campus about 3 years ago visiting a past coworker and we saw 20 employees standing by the road. We asked what they were doing and they said playing Pokeman Go.
Gone are the days where promotions are the result of what you do and what you know. Welcome to the new world of promotions solely on who you know and who you spend time with outside the office.
