Unfortunately, people don’t learn anything from other people’s mistakes and that’s why there are still those who think they are safe and that their hard work and good performance will be enough to keep their job.
So my colleague thought he had no chance of being laid off because he excelled as an employee and had a very specific skillset.
Since then I have always been prepared. You don't need to think about whether there will be a dismissal in June or in July, but what if they tell you tomorrow that they don't need you anymore....

I thought the same…I’m safe because I have been a loyal, hard-working associate who went above and beyond during my career at Staples. Sorry to say that logical thinking does not hold true. I wish all the best to the Staples employees. I have met some of the most outstanding and talented people during my career there.
