Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How many have sent resumes out

I wonder what percentage of current employees have applied to jobs. What percentage of current employees show up at work but are not giving their all anymore. Once loyal employees who now feel disgusted by what they’ve seen and fear it is inevitable they will be PIPd once they reach 50 or older. Maybe earlier if the company can find a BTC or EIO to do their job.

Once you send out your first resume it is just a matter of time before you find something better.

We had a propaganda teleconference recently where people presented on how wonderful their career has been at ExxonMobil. Attrition must actually be a problem. Unfortunately I had to dial in 20 min late because I had a call with a headhunter about a new job he was trying to fill. True story.

Everyone I know at work is looking or considering a second degree like a masters to switch fields. Everyone is tired of waiting around to be pip'd as soon as their role is outsourced.

Not really…

Assuming your resume goes out to another O&G company, or to a company that provides services to O&G companies, you can expect more of the same or worse. Namely stagnant/reduced salaries, reduced/zero benefits, high attrition, age/racial/gender discrimination, layoffs/PIPs, etc. This is exactly what would be expected in a declining industry with no recourse for growth.

Get some transferable skills and change industries. If you already have transferable skills, use them to change industries. If you don’t have transferable skills and you can’t get them, change industries anyway.

I would feel very different if the VPs and CEO had taken a meaningful pay cut. They vote themselves more ou and stock awards while the shareholders send a clear signal that they suck.
