Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

How much room is left for proficient employees today?

When it comes to nepotism at Shell, it’s a very old thing in this company, but in the past, despite nepotism, there was still room here for proficient employees.
Unfortunately, it seems to me that the biggest problem now is that the old buddy club system leaves less and less room for such employees. The negative impacts of this are huge.

For all of you at Shell that remained employed because you are good at a-s kissing or are connected to father, uncle, in-laws....and/or ole-boy-club sh-t. You can’t hide anymore, your as--s are on the line, it is over and the truth is catching to ya all little nepotistic turds! I guess karma does exist! Happily employed elsewhere......

There was a time when it was solely performance based for the most part (80’s). Then it shifted to optics and appearances and friendships in the 90’s. Since 2019, and the globalization of Shell, the US side has followed a more European model of who knows who and why do I need to know you, different then friendships, the assessment of future potential which is highly subjective and therefore subject to high error, and diversity attributes rightly or wrongly.

Agreed. Too much @$$ kissing that gets rewarded at this company regardless of performance. You can be a stellar performer, but unless you are part of the social club, you aren't going very far. Deer Park refinery will hopefully break this cycle with PEMEX buying shell out. It's pretty pathetic when your line supervisor tells you "you don't have to know the process, you just have to know how to work with and manage the people". What happened to core values and integrity?
