Thread regarding General Atomics layoffs

Any former GA employees that left the defense industry? How’d you do it?

I’m getting fed up with the slow paced and lazy work ethic that plagues GA and the entire defense contracting industry.... for those who left GA and got out of the industry entirely... how difficult was it? Where did you end up? How long did the job hunt take you? Are you happier now in your new industry?

I would really encourage you to start your own business, investigate your city's permits for business, they are not that expensive and the people from the city are very helpfull if you have any questions, it may take you a little to do the requierments but its really worth it, I can make 350 in a few hours, more than 2k on a good day.
It could be a lot of work but its yours so you do it with passion. (Depends what you do)
The sun rises for everyone. Competition is out there but it doesnt stop the market.

Moved industries. Public Utility. LOVE IT!!! fast paced, highly skilled co-workers. GA is in my rearview and I am in such a better position now, financially, work skills, mentally! Highly recommend jumping. It’s hard to be the new kid in school, but once you learn the ropes it’s a really good place to be. So take the leap!

Whatever position you hold make sure you are up to date on all skill sets, know the latest software that relates to your position. Look into the industry you want to break into and find out what you need to know for folks with your job tittle. Job postings should tell you that. See if you know anyone (LinkedIn) in that new industry and start networking, informational interviews, friends of friends. Etc. if you demonstrate the drive in your interview that gets you quite a bit. Look into utilities. They have some similarities with government contracting. Fast paced, good money. But small communities so don’t burn bridges.
