Thread regarding Apache Corp. layoffs

IT employees, what the heck is happening?

Seems like there’s no focus, everyone’s chasing some pet project or pointless buzzword these days

Our director sees all the pet "projects" IT has in their capital dollars and complains to us behind closed doors all the time but doesn't have the guts to say anything. They spend so much time googling for words in our mail programs to catch people saying things about our 14th floor

Just curious, what is an IT planner?

Sadly the IT "planners" do not have the skill set to make informed decisions so they go with whoever buys them the best night on the town. They hire IT "professionals" that need coaching from the users because they don't know what they are doing other than the canned excuses that it is not their department. The low-level "grunts" are the only people in IT that know how to do stuff, but they never have the right credentials and everything is delayed while everyone waits. It is a wonder that anything gets done.

Falling apart is more like it. Not enough staff but too much management.

IT “controlling” things seems like the tail wagging the dog

It’s all about exerting power. IT controls you.

And, stuff is always breaking, software licenses expire, servers go down, random network slowdowns, all impacting productivity.

What’s up? I thought our migration to Dallas was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread?
