Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

The need for invention

Someone here mentioned that in the last 15 years, all the company has been doing is buying or incorporating things rather than inventing something by itself. I know people who say it's not that much of a problem. Do you also think that it is not so important as long as things can be bought and incorporated?

The company buys IP for its commodity product. It literally has had no new product in 15 year but not without trying. Qualcomm has gone down swinging many times! Marisol was it’s closed product that Amazon wanted badly but Q wanted a subscription model not to see the product out right and Amazon said no thanks! But Q keeps swinging just can get top quality engineer to come to company! A lot has to do with company culture and that isn’t going to change - so Q better days may be over as an innovator but as a commodity producer it has a shelve life!
