Thread regarding Apache Corp. layoffs

Experiencing intimidation

This is a first for me and I’m not sure how to handle it. Lately I’ve been given unreasonable workloads while my usual responsibilities have been removed. Even worse, the deadlines assigned to these tasks are very difficult to achieve. I’m starting to get paranoid here. Am I being forced out?

So the Supreme Court judges changed the decision after APA donated money for their re-election?

The lawsuit is hardly a joke. Lawyers and those involved know. So much so that Apache has already pulled the lawyer and SVP names from this post (yet do nothing about the damning comments re former employee, ME and “new” hire SR).
The good guys will win this one.

@purejunk I wasn't aware of that. Thank you for bringing it up. These are the kind of actions, decisions, morals and ethics that make me feel dirty for working for APA. I've seen a few others over the years too. I understand the latest being a potential harassment allegation against a certain SVP. There are numerous skeletons in the closet, one is bound to escape.

Apache will continue behaving badly and will pay for the cleanup of its slimiest employees (NR, SVP HR).
If this doesn’t give you fire in the belly, nothing will.

If you are good at your job, your boss fears you. If your boss fears you, you are about to be let go. If you get let go, good luck out there. APA is a laugh in the market.

Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream. Fire JJ. Fire JJ. That would be a great dream.

I heard that rowing story before. The American company was called “American Petroleum Associates”. They call themselves APA.

An American Company and a Japanese Company decided to engage in a boat race. Both teams practiced hard and long to reach their peak performance levels. On the big day they felt ready. The Japanese won by a mile. The American team was discouraged by the loss. Morale sagged. Corporate management decided that the reason for the crushing defeat had to be found, so a consulting firm was hired to investigate the problem and recommend corrective action.

The consultant's finding: The Japanese team had eight people rowing and one person steering; the American team had one person rowing and eight people steering.

After a year of study and millions spent analyzing the problem, the consultant firm concluded that too many people were steering and not enough were rowing on the American team.

So as race day neared again the following year, the American team's management structure was completely reorganized.

The new structure: four steering managers, three area steering managers, and a new performance review system for the person rowing the boat to provide a work incentive.

The next year, the Japanese won by TWO miles!!! Humiliated, the American corporation laid off the rower for poor performance and gave the managers a bonus for discovering the problem.

it really is like that rowing analogy around here. Down to 2 or 3 oarsmen on a boat of 9.

Can’t afford to hire any more people? There is plenty of budget for management it seems, actual workers are another matter however.

That’s the real issue, post re-org, we now all seem to have multiple bosses trying to justify their existence (half of them are redundant or unnecessary) by dreaming up work and demanding valueless make work products from an increasingly smaller pool of individual contributors.

Maybe, but either way don't overwork yourself into the ground. Not worth it.

Not to be rude but welcome to the club. Virtually all of us are overworked because the company is broke and can't afford to hire more people. Unrealistic deadlines are part of our normal world these days.

Look up constructive dismissal, and ensure you document everything that is occurring. Speak to an employment lawyer if you have a real concern. Do not talk to HR unless directed to by your attorney. HR exists to represent and protect the company, not employees.

Texas is an at will state however, and not really employee friendly, so you might not have much recourse.
