Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

My whole store quit

I was in the Tennessee market until 2 weeks ago. I was a rep with verizon for a long time. Our store used to run top in the nation just 4 years ago. With new management in place and how Verizon has got so bad over the last 3 years that our store could not take it anymore managers would say the good verizon days are over and if you don't like it quit. (Our store was one of the ones that got the 2 store merge) So... everyone quit the same month except 2 people and 1 of the 2 is on leave. One person arrived to work in the morning saw that there was 15 people waiting. The manager said to him its just me and you today so he said I cant do this and just left. I am just posting this to save anyone I can. All of last year and this year I suffered from anxiety and panic attacks not knowing what any of that was. I was told by a doctor I had severe anxiety and panic attacks. I figured it out and noticed that I always felt trapped by the endless queue and the financial hardship due to hospital bills and less pay from verizon. I figured out also that 5 people at my store recently started suffering from the same thing. Mental health is so important and I realize that now. Im at a new job that matched my verizon salary plus no cap commission. I do not have to wear those awful uniforms that they didn't listen to us on and my anxiety is almost all gone (except for writing this now). There are more jobs out there than ever before. If you are thinking about leaving take the leap.

I am not a fan of Verizon AT ALL and share many of the same grievances, but I’m sure happy some of you miserable f*cks are gone.

I used to work for Verizon and got out 1 year ago I could tell it was going south! I also worked in the Chattanooga area Verizon was the best thing that happened to me until Hans came along! They don’t care anymore if this were to happen back in the day hr would have Came down to the store and figured out what was going on! All the managers would have been written up. Sounds like the district manager didn’t do anything to stop this from happening

I had never been happier to leave a place of employment. Took a lower paying job just to get out of here because stress levels were through the roof. No work life balance.

I worked at this store. I was told I was going to be transferred when a manager and I didn’t get along. She would belittle me daily and call me in the office to harass me and leave me crying. She and another manager wouldn’t let me speak when these meetings happened. I had keys to the store and made work a priority. Constantly striving to better myself and help those around me. I was told I over applied myself and I should not try as hard. I’ve never been told my an employer to stop trying. We get ranked by numbers and numbers alone. If you don’t rank you don’t get paid. So that was odd to be told to stop trying. I absolutely hated working at Verizon in Chattanooga Tennessee and I do not recommend working for a store. The management is garbage. The hours are ridiculous.

A couple of months ago a rep walker into the store for their 12 to 830pm shift . When they went into the backroom he found out that the rep he was working with called out. He was told that the rules had changed and the store could stay open with 1 rep and a SM( glorified door greeter) The look of te---r on his face was startling! He promptly told the SM that he was sick and was told to leave and went home thus the store closed at 6. This was beginning of the 45 min wait times, now its up to 90 mins . If you find yourself in a similar situation, think fast and leave for your own safety and well being.

Yes it used to be 3 people have to open/close due to security reasons. They changed that rule to match their narrative with less employees.

Before I left the company, stores weren’t allowed to be open with only 2 employees

I'm sorry to hear this, it truly is sad that this is the situation for most people right now and that this companies CEO turns a blind eye to what's happening. My advice to anyone would be don't hesitate to take care of yourself and your mental well being first, you have fmla and in alot of cases anxiety and depression will be good enough for you to go on short term disability. Use your benefits and take care of yourself first.
