Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Make a plan

So many people seem to be worried about their future here yet so few are actually preparing for the worst. The more you prepare, the less the future looks uncertain and the fewer things you have to worry about. Change what you can and learn to live with what you can't. Your health will be grateful to you.

IF you prepare enough for the worst (layoff with no warning), then that same scenario could be the best, given a few years of frugality. I once was afraid of layoffs. My take now is ambivalent. Quite frankly If there is a buyout 4 years from now I will take it no questions asked. Material things are only things that hold you back in the long run. True financial freedom and the associated peace of mind is priceless. Take your vbo when you qualify for it. You've either earned it or spent so far beyond your means that you're forever trapped.
