This is somewhat understandable, however, I have noticed that there are people who brag about sacrificing their personal time for this company because it shows their commitment and makes them look like hard workers. What did that sacrifice bring you? Was it worth subordinating your life to Oxy to such an extent?
In my case, it wasn’t worth it and when I look back, I’m sorry I was so engaged. Although, I really didn’t know how to work differently.

Ask how personal sacrifice worked out in Aberdeen. How do you think those families feel about watching this entitled group of current employees say how great Oxy is and how superior they are to others.
OP keep your head up. I’m sure there are lots of 8-5 jobs out there that are perfect for you. No stress, no challenges, no phone calls after 5pm, no direct reports needing your help. Not much in salary either, but probably just what you are looking for.
Agree with below, except OP doesn’t want similar promotions and savings, he wants “your” promotion and savings that you have obviously taken from him.
1fsx, OP wants your promotions and savings without the personal sacrifices. He has been taught that he deserves it.
You working on Reserves OP? Share the feeling. Remember, this too shall pass.
The best advice for young people is to be patient. Success will come in small pieces and you will have your ups and downs. Do a great job, do your best, and concentrate on learning skills. By the end of your formal career you will be wealthy and hopefully satisfied with your professional contributions.
OP, i have gotten several promotions and a ton of money for my sacrifices. We’ll worth it to have no debt and millions in savings.
People who work hard don’t do it to look good. They do it because of a combination of work ethic and job satisfaction from doing more than the minimum required. It really isn’t a bad stressor if you like your profession and your job. Most hard workers have been doing it their entire lives from about 5 years old.
I think a lot of people identify with their jobs, and there is nothing wrong with that if that is what they want. If one does not want to identify with their work that is fine as well. People are different and some just like to work more and some play more. The bragging part can be done without as it can get old as well, but so can the bragging about playing all the time if ones not getting their work done. Everyone to their own and that is the way it should be. I seem to be able to work hard and play hard so maybe their is an in between.
There are so many people who pass away so quickly after retirement or even before. Got to put balance in place and remember to work to live and not live to work unless your job truly brings you joy. If your job brings you joy and life meaning, then you are blessed/lucky.
