Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Don't get complacent

Just because there haven't been any big layoffs lately and there hasn't been much talk about anything like that coming our way does not mean we are safe. Devon is always looking to cut costs. The easiest way to do it is to get rid of employees. Especially those that make more money than the rest. If you are among them, I can guarantee you they'll be looking for somebody cheaper to replace you at some point. There is no such thing as safe here anymore.

All of this is remedied by a state-of-the-art world class JHA program. Had this pivotal (ahead of its time) program gotten off the ground, Devon would've surely been spared.

Not even the ship captain planting his rudder on shore would've been able to stop the sure success.

Fear not however, for light bulb head is currently implementing world class safety meetings at his new job as a professional safety mentor.

Complacency-what a great word. I remember when I was an acting safety superflvisor in Weatherford after one of our tractors was ki---d we held a big safety meeting. My crack team of 37 safety on an excellent presentation of how wide home plate was and a video of a baby lifting a box. Yes complacency, oh wait nepotism is the word I’m thinking off. I was complacent when my mentor and lover light bulb head got out from my chain of command and I was promptly fired soon after. It appears I had launched one too many kn--e attacks to the back and complacency set in. One richocheted off and got me in my own back. If I had any ear lobes I might have heard it. But they kn--e cut a wide track.

The new CEO gave the company away for half the going rate to insure he had a 7 figure job and bonus. COP and CLR made much better offers for the stock but the two "honest" leaders knifed the stockholders for a promotion.

Good advice! Competence is always a winning strategy!

I don't know the new CEO. I hope he is more trustworthy than DH, who was not above telling fibs!

Is Devon still getting those Best Places to Work awards? If not, that should tell you something. Let go in 2016, best thing to ever happen to me. Always have a current resume ready and an exit plan. Devon quit caring about its employees a decade ago. I check this site now and then as a guilty pleasure.
