Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Qualcomm On Resume - Good thing?

I recently had an interview with Google and they asked me “why did you stay at Qualcomm so long? Qualcomm hasn’t produced a new product in years - did you feel you were gaining skills that would help you advance in big tech at Qualcomm? I really didn’t know how to answer that question. I just stayed that was a main reason why I was leaving Qualcomm bc I was looking to work with leading edge technology.

Has Qualcomm on your resume helped or hurt you when looking for another job? Does Qualcomm open doors or make leading edge technology companies look the other way?

Q is the giant, but you are not, stand on the shoulder of the giant may also make you fall. For your sake, startup may even be a better option than a company make a minus in your resume

There are huge amounts of Qualcomm loyalists on this thread… Answer a simple question for me…. Name one new product that Qualcomm invented in the last 15 years… not something they bought or incorporated but actually invented? Bc being proud of making commodities is okay as long as you know your place!

I agree with the last 2 statements. If you go on an interview and talk about MSM the whole entire time - you aren’t going to get any where and they will kindly walk you out the door. Many leading edge tech companies don’t view chip manufacturing as a leading edge tech company they are viewed more as a commodity. Anyone can be proud going into an interview but hopefully one will read this and be smart to! Please be prepared for questions

I left Q a few years ago and went through a "resume review" with as part of the interview process last month with one of the leading internet companies (FYI: I work at a FAANG today and got in somehow after leaving Q) and they asked what I did during my time at Q. I couldn't come up with enough to fill the 10+ years there and I had 5+ times the amount of accomplishments at my FAANG in 3 years.

So the question is not asked directly but implied when they asked about accomplishments and what you learned during your time at Q. Suggest spending some time to beef this up if you are prepping for a leading tech company (2020s current) interview and think through key accomplishments, learning instead of working on same thing on different version of MSMxyz1.

Netflix and Google asked similar questions. If you are an engineer they will ask you what you were working on and if any products you were working on went to market. It is okay to fail as they don’t see this as a problem but if you have failed for 10 years and can’t spot the issues of the failure this is nothing to be proud of and will get you crossed of the hire list. Just something to think about…. Failure is good but constant failures for long periods of time is a habit

Except if you are cr---y and QC kicks you out of the door, you should be proud of being part of the company. I had interviews with almost all FAANG companies. I was always proud of my QC legacy and It was a big positive thing on my interviews too.

I got asked a similar question at Nvidia. @do you feel qualities a leading edge tech company and if so why are you looking to leave?”
Funny thing is Qualcomm use to weed out people depending on what complies they worked for in the pass. Microsoft use to have a very bad rep. Maybe the ball has come full circle

yeah, it's as if the interviewer read this forum a lot before the interview. The comment matches word for word with what people sh*t about here. OP, get over it already

Lying on a resume never works out.

Google won’t hire anyone who isn’t overqualified for the role. Sounds like BS though.

If a hiring manager asked me such a question, the interview would suddenly end. Gather up their branded products into a pile, pour gasoline on them and fo---e my fire extinguisher as I watched them burn.

Record it using the one product that has a lithium battery that explodes.

Who should I send this video to?

Don’t believe me?

Years of owning XBox came to an abrupt and violent end.
