Thread regarding Pacific Life layoffs

The future of life insurance does not include your job!

Life (dot) io . That's it folks. Check it out. When you move your infrastructure to the cloud and start to prepare your products for this platform, well you don't need many people. So it turns out that when PL said they were "Going Digital" what they really said is "we plan to run this monster of a company with as few people as possible, most of you will be let go". Google the Forbes article that highlights PL's transition goals and their success. Enjoy.

I noticed all the 150-200 year old financial and insurance institutions are losing their flipping mind and have a serious FOMO complex and have to copy everything their competitors are doing even if it leads to impending doom.

Sadly during the 10 years I worked there I saw many people hit retirement and had worked until they were “old and grey”. Must have been nice! They had their little layoffs here and there but it was traditional layoffs. The lady who spends 20 hours a week planning church events. The guy who puts more effort into his marathon training than his job. Fred from operations who does well- no one even knows what he does. Karen the cookie baker. Bill the 2hour burger lunch guy.

Now it reminds me of the old sci-fi movie Logan’s run where they mandatorily cull people at age 40.

Decade of having corporate brainwashing training and slides of fine polished American workers protecting the company, protecting the customer info, risk analysis, think business intelligence, ask yourself what would Pacific Life Jesus do?

My manager would always hit me over the head with leadership bu-----t like “if your gonna be a leader here at pacific life you have to be firm, gotta be a mans man, gotta walk around like you have a cape, you always have to have the answers or they will answer for you!, don’t ever show weakness!”

Dude we sell funds and insurance this isn’t a godfather movie”.

5 minutes later I turn around and see some god damn whispering mumbling slouchy actuary girl who stares at the ground when she walks and shirks when people walk by get promoted to Director, Then AVP of a department of two people.

For a company so damn proud of its California heritage they sure keep replacing departments with overseas outsourcing.
