Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Rumors of layoffs

I'm still safe but the tension is such that I expect a notification about the layoff to come at any moment. I don’t think the atmosphere has ever been worse, or at least I don't remember it being so. Is it possible that cuts are already happening somewhere or are there insights that they might happen soon?

Inhouse techs cry like babies.. But the one that have 10+ are the worst. I worked 12yrs there. And I noticed that A lot of you don't take the time to study how the market is doing, what the company did in Europe, or where the company invest their money. 1.Altice won't invest money for their employees like Cablevision did. 2. they are investing money to the contractors ( you like or not it will continue to happen) because is Cheaper. Me like others moved back to be a contractor, because we like the money.. At least me, I have no stress like you..Advice: Study the market of your environment and decide for yourself if it's convenient for you to continue to cry as a in-house or find a better job to stop crying.. Good luck.

I wish I could put pictures here . For those who do not follow stock market. Wake the fu-k up and don’t plan any vacations , who ever works here can not be this stupid. If so you’re in for a real wake up call!!! Seriously sad and pathetic I feel horrible for my fellow employees I used to work with, but seriously wake up before it is to late. I’m not saying anything. Just look around. If you don’t see the picture and can sleep at night God Bless!

More contractors than ever in the area 6 companies and as well as independent contractors. You will not have a job sooner than later. Hopefully you people aren’t this stupid. You guys seriously need to make a change and stop being scared!! It’s sad 500 men in Nassau to 27 . Seems legit

I would get out of here Asap! Believe me this company will sc--w you and your family. Why roll the dice when contractors are splicing on folding chairs. You really can’t think you will have a job within the year. Think twice It’s a done deal here. Use your time to advance your self. Don’t get comfortable when it’s coming to an end. You will only hurt your self

Saw a guy splicing fiber today in the front of a mini van. It’s time to pack up and look elsewhere. I did and make more than double than I ever did in cable. I work with a guy who did the same leaving charter and both can’t believe how much easier the work is outside of cable and how much more we make. The writing was on the wall when it sold. It continues to look grim just watching a minivan splice fiber in the front seat of the van. Get out while you can look around there are plenty of great opportunities out there.

I took a voluntary out of a NJ depot last May....I spent 19 years at that depot I called home. 5 minute ride, discounted cable, took my van home....great gig. When I sat down though and lost my sh-t because they were saying layoffs my union depot, I knew it was time. It too me until the last day to send my email. I have a wife and 2 kids to support....how could I leave a career after 19 years?? I pulled the trigger. In the long run it also helped out due to covid with family and scheduling. The new shift I would have been moved to wouldn't have helped me during the year either. I took my package and collected my unemployment, made bank and still got money back from uncle sam lol. Listen man, it sucks. It's hard, it's not easy to reset at certain ages but the stress freeness...….dude NOBODY and I mean NOBODY should have to live I fear of losing their job daily even in a union shop. Sure, people got their jobs back but wtf......why?!?!? You work for a telecommunications company. Covid broke the back of offices and internet was needed. Hey lets lay off some people because work is slow. It was a lie. It was a way to clean the books and make people go away. Am I making what I made there after 19 years? No, am I not in fear of losing my job tomorrow? No....seriously just look around. There are jobs. I won't lie, it's noit that easy for some people but......the grass IS greener on the outside. Even if you worked for a contractor, there are plenty that are W2 and offer benefits. It would STILL be 1/2 the stress you're dealing with. Good Luck

If that supervisor cared about you and your family, they would have got that info out a little earlier. They just care about themselves. Karma baby karma

I left and now work like a human being. No more worries about getting laid off because this place can’t go fu-k a goat. I’m now experiencing life on the outside. Life truly is better, but you have to take chances. You all know not much time left here. Don’t waste your time. You only have 1 life to live!!!

Gentlemen a long term supervisor who is retiring stated to me that he doesn’t believe we even have a year left, with the exception of union shops who’s contract expires in 2022.So take it it for what it’s worth

Seriously you must open your eyes. There is no management left! Why because there are no more techs to manage. Union shops have no backing because there are simply not enough people. When the time came no one signed cards . We’re now in a sh-t show of starting all over again. Every month someone leaves and is never replaced. Contractors got us all beat . I’m actively looking to get out. You will not retire from here

You’re definitely not safe, however the pandemic is over, jobs are opening up every where. Do not cut yourself short. You have a trade. Look into local wiring or camera jobs in your area. Alarm company’s as well some guys went to ADT or Slomins.

You’re not safe lol but if it helps you sleep at night then keep telling yourself that. Layoffs are inevitable. They’ve still got non union employees, they’ve got CBAs that are coming up on their end date. It’s all part of their plan, Altice knows what they’re doing. It’s only a matter of time before everyone is gone and contractors completely take over.

Unfortunately no one left wants to accept it. The job you spent your life building is coming to an end. It’s extremely hard to accept but if you wait till the end. You’re only fooling yourself and family. Look now for something better

I’ll give you an example Nassau County had over 500 techs, Now all together 27 . This should be an eye opener. This company will fail horribly. Don’t be a part of it. Try to get a package and leave. It will be the best decision you can ever make. Good luck

You’re probably an excellent technician, But if you been around long enough. You should realize this job is done ✔️. Especially with 6 contractor companies working around the clock. Our shop 2 more techs just quit. They have had enough. This was a great job at 1 time but now the stress will ki-l you. No one can work under these circumstances anymore. Good luck to you
