Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Any news at Deer Park?

Anybody know ANY news going on at Shell Deer Park? I received a job offer at Shell in houston, but I read they are selling the refinery. Some of my colleagues have had jobs there in the past and said they can't sell one without the other. Is this true?

What is the actual concern that you have?

If you have no other offers - take this one. Work a bit, find something better - quit. "Not a lifelong employer" anymore !!!

Shell has been selling refineries for a while now so a shell refinery getting sold is no surprise. Deer park was a surprise because it was named one of the energy parks that was being kept in the portfolio.

If shell sold chemicals too then they just wasted a lot of money building penn chem and that site isn’t even operational yet. Also their “downstream” operation would effectively be dissolved since trading can’t really trade anything without a facility to run what they traded.

I'm going to another Houston location. But I'm second guessing the offer because Shell announced sale of refinery. I can only assume chemicals is right behind it

The job u got in Houston is at deer park or at other Houston locations like westhallow, woodcreek, otm?

They can definitely sell refinery without selling chemicals at deer park. They just need to negotiate with Pemex on feed cost from refinery to chemicals or find another source of feed for chemicals. It was that way before chemicals and refinery came together as “shell deer park”.

Everyone who is straight out of college with less than 3 years or experience is going to Pemex so they feel massively screwed.

Everyone who is at or above manager level is going to Pemex. If the position support refinery more then chemicals the you’re going to Pemex.
