Judge orders UP to keep jobs in Palestine for now

We’ll see how it goes. UP might actually have to abide by the law and the contract.

From the article:

A district court judge ordered Union Pacific on Thursday to continue its employment in Palestine as required by a prior judgement.

As for what happens next, an attorney representing the City of Palestine and Anderson County said that likely depends on what the railroad does next, whether it be appealing this order or a request for further hearings.

The railroad announced plans in April of 2021 to cut almost 60 jobs from their Palestine railcar shop by June 14, 2021. Those plans were brought to a halt leading up to Thursday’s hearing in Rusk, and the court’s order to maintain the jobs still stands.

UP said “We Are One” and painted the locomotive. The judge said here’s 60 more to keep on the payroll. Coming soon UP’s newly painted locomotive “I fought the law and the law won”.

"Why wouldn’t they just sell that yard to someone cheap?"

  • ‐---------------------

Are u a doofus? How can they when there is a rock-solid contact in place. It went to court many times and UP lost. Even at the supreme court of the US. Duh.

Move the union workers out and drop a nuke on the place. I worked there 17 yrs. It sucked. Was good until after yr 2004, then went downhill on a greased ski slope. Eff 'em.

About damn time someone fights back against UP and has a chance of winning. So tired of watching UP hurting people and families and towns.....and yes I am an id--t who still works there. They have caused so much pain here and elsewhere.....one day they will reap what they have sown.
