I hear this more and more often, that Q is not a good place for career development. It makes me a little sad because I had a different idea about this company. I had high expectations when I applied for a job here a little over a year ago. Unfortunately, I am slowly realizing that I have idealized this place.

OP you are living in Q of 20+ years past. That company no longer exists.
- g. in GOOGL you manager absolutely has to care about your career and is measured on your progress. There are tons of pulse surveys on your manager, his org etc and they take this data very seriously. That doesn't mean you will get promoted just like that but you will get opportunities if you are doing work and they will do a "gap analysis" to help you and your career grow.
Qualcomm doesn’t care about your career development any more than Apple or Google would. Frequently, you are brought on at big companies to master and focus on tasks that someone else doesn’t want to do or doesn’t do often enough to be an expert at it. (occasional user syndrome.)
