I have both fond and disappointing memories of my time there. The corporate office had some excellent amenities. Also, I learned some tough lessons and made good friends along the way.

I took pride in my work, but was never at a level/position like VP where my talent and influence could be maximized.

At this point, my advice to anyone that’s miserable there is to create an exit plan that’s right for you and your family. If that means changing jobs or even careers, then start quietly taking steps to do so.

Blaming middle management and senior leadership at this point in the games is like shouldering all your shortcomings on a childhood bully. Bad things may have happened to you, but ultimately it’s on you alone to improve your position. You can’t change the past and shouldn’t wait for others around you to change their ways.

Again, create a plan and take those first few steps toward personal growth and fulfillment! It’s going to be a journey, but one worth embarking on. Good things are on the horizon for you.

I find it hard to motivate myself to perform my best every day. But how can one solve this issue? Is it the industry or market that we are in or the poor management? I struggle to find the answer to this question.

@Klute...agreed but there are a few "bad seed" managers who NEVER should have been considered to be over anyone because they LACK the ability to separate personal from professional....plain and simple. There are people in management there that believe that their "title" at Fossil enables them to treat PEOPLE any way they please.

Whoever Klute is I agree with you 100%. I am a manager and everything you wrote hits home, the same thing happens to me. I enjoy my job about half the time, the other half is trying to make through the day, I see a lot of shady stuff and am powerless to do anything lest it cost me my job

What you need to understand is your manager's do not make one single decision, they are just the messengers from your VPs. They do get VP support on issues that arise but when something does not work out the Veeps leaves them high and dry to take the fall. It happens daily. This is why your managers seem so unsteady on decisions because they are in no win situations. And don't even think that any personnel issues are handled by your manager, every issue is handled by HR. You wonder why bad employees stick around so long? It takes an act from God to get rid of a bad egg, or by HR and Legal, they could care less about performance, they are only concerned if the company could somehow be sued. Your manager will have to go thru 4-5 HR meetings and at least 2 legal calls before a bad employee can even be approached about bad behavior or performance. So go easy on your manager and know that he/she sees all of the same problems that you do it is that their hands are tied. You have Veeps and HR making 100% of the calls when for the most part they have no idea how the department works, they like to tell mgrs to explain everything to them at a "high level" meaning they have no interest in getting into the weeds to find out why something works or does not work. At the end of the day everyone is trying to save their own job and your manager is just the middle man or women, not allowed to do what is obviously right without getting permission. Remember they have like 3-4 bosses that every decision has to go thru plus HR. I Hope this clears up some things that is causing such frustration.
