Thread regarding Giant Eagle layoffs

Is there anyone that still enjoys it?

All the posts that I read are about current/former employees who hate working at GE. Honestly is there anyone besides myself who still enjoys it? Call me a glutton for punishment if you want, but I enjoy the hard work, it makes me feel like I’ve earned every single penny and the people I work with are like an added bonus. I just can’t understand the hatred.

I do make a little over $2k. I started off as a level I where the hourly pay was $15/hour and I would put in a lot of overtime (usually I’d work the maximum Amazon would allow us to work which is 60 hours) and at first I was bringing in about $1,300/week. About 6 months later, HR got wind of me having a bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management. Normally Amazon only offers management positions to folks that have been with the company 3 years, but given the fact that it was a brand new facility, they were about to loose some managers to help launch other facilities, and the fact that a lot of employees left during the pandemic (which is understandable), they bumped me up to area manager without me having to wait the 3 years. I get $27/hour. Here I was trying to get a management position at Giant Eagle for years and they wouldn’t even look my way and this was even after I graduated college and still with them. They would instead give the position to these other folks that I wouldn’t even hire my own self and were so incompetent that they only lasted with the store only 4 months. That’s their loss.

That’s all you’ve earned for your hard work is pennies and that’s it. I enjoyed it at first when the father ran the company because he was on his A-game and took somewhat better care of his employees. When the daughter took over, that’s when the hard core penny pinching and hours cutting came into play. Nothing like just barely getting 20 hours and seeing that barely $150 check at the end of the week after all the union dues and taxes were taken out for that hard work. Who the he-l wants to stay there and spend the rest of their lives struggling and being on food stamps and section 8 the rest of their lives at the rate they’re paying folks. I quit, left for Amazon and at least bring home close to $2,000 a WEEK compared to the $150 a week I saw at giant Eagle. I make way more money there than at Giant Eagle. He-l, I make more money than most of the managers there. They had to stay at Giant Eagle for more than 25 years just to see that kind of paycheck and I was getting that in less than two years at Amazon. I also get better benefits as well too.

Enjoy what?? The low pay? Working every weekend? Working every holiday? Working 7 days a week and paid 5? Not being able to use time off you earned? No chance at advancement because your not related to someone or you haven’t gotten someone pregnant? Etc etc etc
