Thread regarding CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield layoffs

July layoffs

I've been hearing some rumors about July layoffs, but considering the source, I thought it was better to check before I get too stressed over potentially nothing. Has anybody here hear anything about upcoming cuts sometime before the end of July? Any info would be highly appreciated.

Do we really need positions like diversity and inclusion czars stationed throughout The company? ARG, yes-they are legit. Inclusion and equity are great things to strive for, but when a company starts carving out so much with so many of these new executive positions, it appears contrived and obvious to the business community at large. Better to consolidate these critical elements into existing personnel that likely have the capability and if the company truly wants to display its diversity snd inclusion capabilities, it should start with instilling that ideal into existing leadership. Hiring new people snd creating new positions has a negative optic readily transparent. That optic is admitting either the company completely lacked the skill or sensitivity in its existing personnel or a window dressing to the business community of positions that frankly have little substance other than name and title.

OpEx Metrics

This metric and ideal has been a fallacy forever. “Operational Excellence” could be an amalgamation of anything. It was in fact a committee at one point - and that committee was anything but. It did nothing except fool the board. I truly want to see positive change uplifting the company, community, suppliers, mission, and employees. L

Ask BDP in the town halls what the OpEx PMPM metric goals are and how “on-track” CF is to hitting them. Reminder, start of year they were off target, same with prior year, to the tune of tens of millions impacting the PMPM OpEx metric. Note, metric to the board and what ELT and BDP are measured on (one key area at least). Layoffs will continue until OpEx and PMPM metrics are managed.

As the new career framework is rolled out there are sure to be some displeasure among the ranks. That will cause people who are dissatisfied to leave on their own. As attrition occurs, that gives way to reorganization. As that occurs, that is where layoffs may begin to occur. Cycle: New career framework >> departures >> reorganize what is left >> layoffs.
