Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

Driven into the ground & we’re supposed to thank them for it

Lately it has just been profit over customer & employee. Not kind of but directly. More work, no help or guidance, zero overtime or you’re threatened with termination.

With business starting to resemble precovid numbers, what little full timers and abused part timers are left, are being called on to complete more and more intensive work loads and to acceptable standards. Now we are actively hiring so at least management is “trying” to get us the help we need but the work load doesn’t diminish. And to step on our throats as we’re down they cut our store labor by 300 hours. They want 40 hours worth of work done in 28. Now obviously this will strain employees and the value of our services will suffer. But nonetheless, the “higher ups” seem to think this is the only logical course of action.

New corporate policies are enacted with corporate “overseers” implementing but giving no training or guidance to the store employees. Adding new handheld devices, new computer programs and adding more steps to try and fix a problem doesn’t make it more efficient. Sometimes less is more.

Finally, yes we all know “no overtime” is the new mantra. But if you want work done to quality standards, on time and done with what appears to be deliberate understaffing management practices then there is going to be some overtime. Make your peace with it. But no, instead of being praised or at least thanked for doing the extra work/time you are threatened with termination if you continue to have overtime. Tyrannical is the only word that comes to mind.

What a joke. 25 cent raise for the year of 2019-2020? Go get fu---d HyVee, and especially you Tim Cernin. You expect covid profits without real labor? How? Have Randy explain how one fella is going to do the work of five in my dept, all in 40 hours? Sure I’ll just stock them products that never showed up that I pre-ordered, sell an extra item to a customer that’s pi---d off that we don’t have the ad item. Then they can get me fired for not delivering quality service. Does this sound like your dream job??? There are many, many openings!! Not at Moline 2 though.

A wage review is not a guarantee of a raise. And yes, the director at our store has already said in anticipation of any raises that may be coming in August, store hours will be cut considerably. No one is going to want to work 10 hours a week or less for barely over minimum wage when there are tons of openings elsewhere that pay more and consider part time to be at least 20 hours/week.

Really,a wage review, how pathetic a statement that is.They might give you A LITTLE more money but hyvee is so far behind everyone else people better check out other places before coming to hyvee
Plus they wont schedule any help anyway. They just try to make themselves look good by saying they are reviewing wages.BIG DEAL,SCHEDULE HELPPPP!!!!
