Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

This is no longer the same company

Only since I got a job here, a little over four years ago, this is a completely different company to which I would certainly not apply for a job. The atmosphere is getting worse every day. Nepotism is on the rise. Unfortunately, I do not see any changes for the better. I can only imagine how much everything has changed when considered over a long period of time.

How much has this company changed since you came here?

I've been here around 4 years also. Stay focused and passionate. Keep your head down and work. Stay away from the gossip and you will be fine. Work hard and keep a good attitude. It'll get better.

In regards to the contractors...... almost my entire team was replaced by contractors. It's ridiculous. Considering each of them cost between 250 and 350k, my teams budget has skyrocketed. By necessity, we have allowed contractors to fulfill roles that should only be done by staff. I was in a meeting the other day where a contractor was tasked with deciding whether or not we needed to hire MORE CONTRACTORS. Really?

I hear a lot of REALLY good technical employees talk about how they are going to leave as soon as they can. Certainly, anyone that makes their living finding and producing oil and gas would be benefitted to look elsewhere. If I believe the incessant comms that Bernie releases every 5 minutes, that's what they want to happen. It's like he hates his own employees that make the company money.

It has changed so much. I've been here for over 10yrs and back then vs now - the difference is huge. I used to enjoy my job and folks I worked with. Now, although thankful I'm employed, I hate what I do every day and can barely motivate myself to sit down at the computer each morning. I should also add that I got placed in a role I didn't choose as a part of reinvent. I wasn't asked for input, I was just put in this role. Ironically, this post-reinvent role of mine is the same one I purposefully left years ago because of how miserable it was. Hahaha. So now I'm back, full circle and even more miserable than before. Been working on my resume. Post-reinvent roles require a two year commitment. Not sure my sanity will let me last that long.

Contractors going around doing whatever they want seems to be the biggest challenge
