Shell is an old-school company with the leadership that would like more than anything else to preserve the status quo. Do everything the same way it has been done 'since the dawn of time,' no innovation and no change required, thank you very much. The times are changing and we're standing in place - how much longer can that work for?

In fact cronyism, nepotism and old buddy club system exist where I am based locally in Asia. It has been going on for decades. If you are not in the club, fat hope of ever being recognised for you work or talent.
That is why it continues to bleed because the best are not running the place.
Think the OP is confused. Shell is managed by a bunch of people that got promoted thru nepotism and the old buddy club. They are not equipped to run the business and lack the courage to admit they are working in an oil and gas company and go on believing they can transform it into a green energy company.
Not sure where you have been OP. Leadership is trying hard to evolve and innovate, at least on the surface for the big money stakeholders. Old school is not how I would ever describe Shell.
Shell isn’t “standing in place.” It’s in run off and selling its assets. You are “standing in place” if you aren’t securing alternative employment so you don’t end up in the hospitality or retail industry.
You can’t turn oil drilling and manufacturing facilities into lithium battery factories. “Greening up” existing operations is for PR purposes and tax incentives, not industry transformation.
