I always hope for the best, but I prepare for the worst. Judging by the atmosphere in the company, I don’t remember there ever being this much tension, and I’ve been working here for over 6 years. I started looking for a new job and at the same time I try to save up as much as possible.
Do you have an EXIT strategy and an idea of where you will look for your next job?

Sorry to hear that. I spent 12 years in, leaving the other railroads as they went to PSR. I had High hopes for Bnsf. At the time I hired in I was excited, actually for once took an interest in my work because I knew at the time they were not going to do PSR. Now, that is gone and so am I, waiting and wanting now to be laid off. I’m very bitter about it as well, but the railroad already cost me a marriage, time with my kids, and missing out on events. Enough is enough. Time to take back control and do something for yourself. Go to school, start a business, find a new path in life. The railroad only cares about its operating ratio, not its employees anymore. Just make sure to spread the word about what it’s like now so no one else makes the mistake and starts working there as well just to get screwed by those greedy bastards!
15 years down the drain in own swift afternoon 3 months ago. I’m still bitter and don’t know if I’ll ever not be. I’ve found decent work since, but it really does feel like I’ve wasted a lot of life. Missed things. Skipped things. Lost things. Did everything by the book tried to be a good worker. All for not. Tough, tough pill.
