Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Credits question

How soon after reaching zero credits do you get fired? Do they call you down to the office or fire you right on the floor? I've never been fired before just want to know what to expect

As desperate as we are for colleagues, you won’t get fired. And I don’t know about other stores but at mine, managers never look at attendance. When it was points or now for reliability. They don’t care at my store.

I always made my credit goal throughout my 20 plus years of working for Macy’s and still got laid off.

Totally agree with last post. I had the second highest in my store with well over 100. I got a gift with purchase tote bag from cosmetics as a reward.😳. I even appealed to HR at the time to suggest Macy’s let the highest achievers to cash them in for an extra PTO day or some other worthy reward but no, I would have to be satisfied with the tote. Just another example of corporate not recognizing the people that go the extra mile.

Hi there! I didn't realize that anyone was still on the attendance point system. I remember switching to the "reliability metric" calculation. It was quite a disappointment for those of us that had over 100+ attendance credits(That means missing family events, parties, rescheduling healthcare, etc). The new system devalued those that had made long term reliability a mantra and put those with few or no years of service on the same basis. Everyone was now the same. I guess they didn't think that your previous track record was meaningful. Maybe it was set up so that Managers could have more flexibility. In the old system if you had zero credits left you were toast. It was pretty impartial and few people that went to zero got a reprieve. Many new hires and part-timers would run out of credits because they had not yet developed good time management skills. Also, many part-timers had more than 1 job to make ends meet and they lost credits when the schedules of those two jobs were not compatible. The new "reliability metric" calculation meshed with the new dashboards that the Managers were intently focused. This real time focus is a product of our current generation. It's very much "What have you done for me lately!".

Attendance credit system is gone. New system was put in place several years ago is Reliability and it's percentages, not points.

No one means for their points to get low. Personal accountability and responsibility. Pay attention and take care of yourself. It will be no different anywhere else.

Not credit accounts. Attendance credits.

Most of the company moved away from the point system for attendance. You must be at a union store?

Sorry! Misread the message. You meant for attendance. I wish you the best!

In the past the point loss was up to the manager. If you had zero left the manager could give you up to 1-3 more points as a second chance. Nowadays being how things are they most likely will fire you on a Friday. So call out on Friday and never show up again. Go get a real job and go to the beach. While your on the beach scream at the moon “ I’m free I’m free I’m free !!!!”
