Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Boomer, Gen X, Millenial

Who built the company? Who screwed it up? Who is riding it down?

Boomers built it.

DW is the head of the Gen X'ers who were the start of the entitlement attitude.

Millennials are driving it into the ground, whining about actually going to work. Y'all need some real field experience in the sun, mud, rain and snow. 100F to -40F, baking, soaked to the bone, or freezing might change your perspective.

@boomers built a laisez-faire and nepotism company?

This company is exceptionally nanny-ish. All those systems, overlapping rules, constant microaggressions against the workers with BS feedback systems all designed to blame the workers.

Have you done your LPSA?

Are we talking about the same Boomers who run this company like it's 1929 in 2021? Hm......

People like you @OP. All the generations I have interacted with are fine. People constantly looking for differences in the workforce to get folks to turn on each other are the problem. Also a culture of blame that facilitates that insecure need to deflect blame to "the other" doesn't help either. I recognize I am feeding a troll lol but come on man - not sure if you are 22 or 62 but grow up.

I used to think who screwed the company until the day that my supervisor who in first time manager lied to on my face.

At the end the culture in this company has to change a LOT. We already have mini DW all over this place and they are been promoted in a fast pace.

The saddest thing in the history of this company is that we are witnessing “ animal farm” Playout right in front of our eyes ! The exec that brought this used to be titan of oil industry to this pathetic state of affair continues to stay around and collect his damn fat pay check while he threw all those employees ( who actually brought in the doughs) overboard of this sinking ship that he stewards ! He continues to stay without being PiP . He is the most deserving individual that ought to b PIPed . Who has he achieved ? Nothing , except bringing down this titan to its end …. He ought to be sacked !

Going to probably have a Boomer retirement to support (because they won’t heed any financial advise) and a couple GenZ educations to fund…so ‘entitlement attitude?’ ‘Seriously’ How about watching the mistakes of those before and after us, and silently picking up the pieces without that much belly-aching. (Aside from this post.)

Boomers were Millennials 50 years ago.

Think about it: They were born to a tougher generation than themselves. They were free-love tolerant hippies in their youth. They had kids, but continued to think “me, me, me.” (Why do you think genXers were the latch-key kids?). Then at some point, when they realized they hadn’t saved enough or they realized stocks CAN go down, they started to sour.

So Millennials, you are headed for Boomer-dom next. It’s all a big old merry-go-round. Get over yourselves!

Ummm, you think boomers built the company? Sounds to me like it was the Interbellum or Greatest generation, if you are referring to Exxon proper. If you go all the way back to Standard Oil….those guys had too much grit to give a thought as to what ‘generation’ they belonged.

But cute, Boomers do think they built the world.

So sad to see this company in a mess! All generations need to be at the table!

@OP Very few millennials hold corporate leadership positions, especially in O&G. I’m not sure I’m following you here.

In fact, boomers control the levers of power at virtually ever tier of the system. It logically follows that Boomers (as a group, not as individuals), are responsible for whatever is wrong with the system.

FYI: at -40F exposed flesh freezes in 30 seconds or less. I somehow doubt you’ve worked outside in such conditions for any length of time.

Here we go again about who's at fault.....
It is the executives making the terrible decisions that seem to change every 6 months. It is them making decisions that benefits themselves and hurting everybody else.
Quit trying to make this into a generational issue and playing right into their hands.

Darren and Rex are Boomers. Brought the company down. Lee Raymond is Silent Generation. He was last good CEO.

Amen brother, 40 year employee here just retired many turnarounds in Baton Rouge. Hardest working contractors I've seen in my career, specifically the heat exchanger crew. Was a great company for me. Took good care of me . Blessed to work for this company,

When baby boomers hit a median age of 35 in 1990, they owned nearly one-third of American real estate by value. In 2019, the millennial generation, with a median age of 31, owned just 4 percent... that gap will probably narrow by the time they see 35. But they’re not likely to reach 30 percent of the housing market — or even the 20 percent attained by the smaller Generation X at the same point in their lives

The only reason XOM hasnt disappeared like blockbuster videos is because the price of oil recovered somewhat. They can thank OPEC for that. It has zero to do with anything they did!

Sears, Toys R Us, JC Penny, General Motors, Blockbuster Videos, GE....shall I continue?!?! Those are just some of the companies boomer managers brought down! Why? Because they refuse to change and update their business models! This is why all the old farts need to be purged and sent to the retirement homes!
