Thread regarding BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. layoffs

Inexperience shows

So much experience is gone from BJ's, employees have tasks that are difficult to perform because they don’t have the knowledge and let’s get real - there’s no one capable to show them or to even learn from. No one takes pride in the work they do anymore because what is there to be proud of? The whole situation is sad.

My club in the past week : front line mgr walked out after 2 weeks on the job , asst store mgr gave notice, pic lead gave notice we have no one in hr . There are not enough managers in the building to function (i’m the fresh mgr) i work 12-13 hour shifts because i have no labor to do the work and every day my store mgr gives me another responsibility. I was one of the “lucky ones” that go to keep my salary with the new position . This in what i’m responsible for : bakery, produce deli commercial bakery(venders) consignment floral. When we tell HO that we’re severely understaffed they say we’re making you a priority but nothing happens .It’s very disheartening since i’ve been with the company 28 years and i have seen alot but this is the worst . I think it will be a very quick decline

Unfortunately all previous comments are true to this day. BJs Employees stepped up and worked so hard during the Pandemic putting so much money in BJs Management pockets. Come 2021 BJs basically laid off, fire or shuffle staff leaving the Business with new in-experience staffing.
The stores do not have enough staffing leaving some Employees to work long hours.
Products are not removed from shelves in time based on dates which have stuff like cheese growing mold.
Staff without experience or any BJs training are left to man locations and cannot help customers
The lines for check out are longer because no one is there to properly managed or help move it along
Parking lots are full with carts and garbage everywhere
Customers calling into the store cannot reach anyone because no one answers especially Customer Service
The young people they hiring are not willing to do the work
Produce areas smell of rotten items
Lastly, the employees who put in the work are under appreciated and over worked by Management
Prices have gone up on items however, BJs have not reconsidered how much they pay Employees. Starting at $12.

The stores have gone from clean and decent to the worst considering customers have to pay a fee for Membership.

Scotty's not going to be rolling up his sleeves to help!! He is too busy stabbing everybody and anybody that he can in the back because he think's that's the way you get ahead in business. He fits in perfectly with Baldwin, Derouches ,Eddy etc. Has a company ever assembled a team of such universally despised regional/zone/ executive partners as BJs? Everyone in the field hates every single one of them and with good reason. They have no respect for the people they employ and have no perspective of what is happening with their own business because they are all cut from the same cloth and feed off of each other. They've all somehow entered an alternate universe where they put on blinders and deceive themselves into thinking everything they've done is working just fine. Meanwhile, back in reality the clubs are on the verge of collapse under the weight of their continuously stupid and clueless decision making. Don't worry, after they've drained the company of as much money as they can steal they'll all be jumping ship like rats so that no one can directly blame each of them for the company's imminent demise! Who would expect anything else from the cowards who laid off hundreds of team members who earned them record profits during a pandemic while they were "sheltering at home" and conducting endless zoom meetings!!! The same cowards who still haven't announced their "plan" to the general populace and shareholders. What a sickening bunch of individuals! Their punishment should be to work one week in a club as it is currently constructed so they can see their stupidity with their own two eyes and have to look the team members and members in the face. But they won't, because that would make them men and BJs is no longer run by men. They are run by bullies and children!!!!

I recently spoke to my former boss who took the fresh manager position. They are unable to fill positions and he had to take a day or 2 off because he was physically and mentally drained. He showed me pics of the produce department and it was a disaster. How can you keep a building let alone a whole company presentable with no work force and the work force that you do have is overworked and frustrated. Not a good combination. Maybe Scotty and his gang can roll up their sleeves and get into the trenches instead of calling shots from the safety of their office.

This is really sad, a company that has/had so much potential has disrupted the lives of so many dedicated workers and they don’t even have the decency to admit that the actions taken on April 4 2021 were wrong and irresponsible on their behalf. As it has been said clubs are having a hard time, even with sign on bonuses the clubs are having a hard time getting and keeping team members. They spent a year and a half pushing and talking about Gold Standards. Where is Gold Standards today, the clubs are in the worst shape they have ever been in, Members are more frustrated than ever because of poor engagement and as I have said they decision to let skilled knowledgeable Team Members that carried the company for so many years was the most harmful, inconsiderate, misaligned decision that a company can make and expect to be successful. So very sad the lives that have been affected by their actions. If you want to do a reduction in the work force do it the right way, go off of documented performance information, don’t leave it to the decisions of individuals and their buddies to pick and choose based on how you either feel or like a person. A job is not about making friends it is about each and every individual’s contributions to the company being successful !!!!

Everything being said is absolutely accurate. After being with this company over a decade I had to take a paycut and accept a new position because these scumbags didn't even offer me a severance package. Then having to sit through zoom calls and listen to Jeff Douschebag and his buddy Scott Sh-----d talk about how great everything is while the club crumbles around us is just icing on the cake. This is without a doubt the biggest joke of a company in retail.

Hard to believe still that someone actually thought this plan would work. They gutted the clubs of thousands of skilled and experienced managers and team members, giving them next to nothing on the way out the door. Yet the person (persons) responsible for such a disastrous decision not only remain employed but have probably benefited financially from costing the company millions and ruining it's reputation beyond repair! Only in today's corporate America!! Why would any team member want to be a manager now? They just watched people who had given their lives to BJ's to help them succeed get pushed out the door, in the middle of a pandemic no less! Cheated them and their families out of bonuses and severances they had rightfully earned! Then have to watch them hand out bonuses to try to entice people just to come to work for them. The new big business claim is that they can't hire anybody because nobody wants to work but the fact of the matter is BJ's had a very successful workforce and knowingly let it go and is now paying the price. They haven't even begun to experience pain yet! Wait until the 2nd half of the year starts to kick in with the holidays coming. Working at a BJ's is going to be a He-l on Earth!!!! And let's face it, with all the shopping choices nowadays isn't asking someone to pay to shop with you a bit of a scam now? BJ's and other memberships clubs used to be loaded with value and were a step up in a shopping experience. Now the prices aren't really markedly better, the quality of the products has declined substantially and you get to check out your own groceries!!! Not exactly a way to retain members. BJ's keeps saying they are constantly reinvesting in the business but anybody who has worked there knows that is not true. They have stripped everything to the bare minimum. They have one of the worst web sites on the net, their online ordering program is a shambles and their curbside/BOPIC service sucks!! Don't take my word for it. Just read their Facebook page and see all the comments from the happy members! I hope the lines keep growing and the comments keep coming. BJ's is dead and they can find the ki---r in the mirror!!!

I can't see it getting better than it currently is. A lot of their top talent in the stores are gone so most of the new hires training will be coming from online training videos instead of from hands on training with someone who has been doing it for years. I think at this point the company just wants some warm bodies in the clubs just to do something. Quantity over quality.
