Shell Deerpark Refinery has been sold to PEMEX. Sad for all involved.

@texasmonk who cares. Contractors can pick up and go anywhere
Now lets see how that shakes out for all the contractor companies and their employees. It's nice that the the Shell guys have some safety net but they're not the bulk of the people working there.
The Mexican president mentioned tht no one will be laid off and everyone of the original workerswill stay
@2vff+1b0ryVct My guess is that Pemex has to honor existing union contract until contract is renewed.

Unfortunately for the staff, as I started my career at Deer Park, I could see this coming more than a mile away. Refining is a tough business and margins for Shell are worse. Local management refused cost cutting measures from Head Office which we proposed thinking they were immune. I only hope the union members were taken care of.
@1hso+1b0ryVct: Norco had townhall today stating they’re “safe” and that Deer Park refinery was only thing sold and they have nothing to worry about. We also didn’t think our refinery would be sold either but alas here we are. Still a lot of confusion and rumors going around Deer Park right now. Our SLT is supposedly doing a “draft” of who is going to make a better fit for chemicals and Pemex today. Chemicals just got left with Light Olefins, Phenol, Heavy Olefins and some of Aromatics units and the Effluent Treaters for water. Pemex got everything including the docks and refinery assets.

When will NORCO be sold?
Townhall basically said Pemex is 100% refinery asset and will divvy up jo--t units in upcoming weeks (ie; utilities, integrated units etc). Salary will discussed and everyone on refinery will be seeing a change in pay someway I’m hearing. Whether it’s through benefits or pay. Chemical side remains the same. A lot of unease across the site. Many people speaking of leaving and finding a job elsewhere and not wanting to work for a corrupt government. Hourly to be effected in same manner but pay and benefits to remain the same for 24 months. Pemex to visit Shell Deer Park and have a townhall this Thursday.
