I envy everyone who can say for themselves that they hope to be laid off. My situation is not like that and I am more than anxious about losing my job before I find a better option. However, I have colleagues who are constantly talking about hoping to get laid off even though they still have no idea where they might work afterwards.
Is the desire to get out of here so strong that many would very gladly take the risk and leave even without having secured another option?

You were looking for a job when you found this one right? You will be fine.
Jesus Christ take a look around. It’s all defense mechanisms. People are either saying they’re done cause they’re realists and see the writing in the wall or are in lala dreamworld like you hoping. The smart thing is accept you’re done and prepare. Hope gets you nothing. The writing is on the wall. Read it
You must be one of the workhorses that does the job of 10 employees while Joe Blow leans on his box playing on his cell phone all day under 300 cameras, and BNSF is making permanent job cuts.
Start making plans to not have a job on the railroad anymore even though you are "hoping not to be permanently laid off"
Big cuts are coming and the only ones left will be the Joe Blows.
Maybe they have a better option and you just don’t know about it.... never show your hand in poker.
