Thread regarding General Atomics layoffs

How did you get prepared?

I'm safe for now, but it became clear to me a long time ago that I don't have a bright future here so I tried to put away as much savings as possible.

People talk a lot about exit strategies and that one should always be prepared, but that’s my only preparation.

I wouldn't like to find my name on the layoff list, but I'm much calmer now, whether the rumors come true or not.

At GA just be the laziest employee possible. Never question anything and never improve any processes always tell your boss they are a genius even if they are the d-mbest person on the planet… and this will put you in the best position to succeed at GA… if you fail with everyone else at GA you will have no problems… if you point out flaws at GA you will be let go… if you take a risk and fail at GA you will be let go… if you take a risk and succeed at GA you will be let go for making all the failures look bad…. So just fail with everyone and you have no worries

You should always be prepared. That means ensuring your resume stays up to date and your skills too. If you are not learning new skills at work, then do so on your own when possible. There are a lot of videos and online trainings out there.

It's best to be prepared for anything given the state of things at this current moment. Its seems our country is more concerned about stuff at home than matters abroad. I'm open to the possibility that i can be completely wrong. In my case, i wasn't prepared for the layoff. I was told by my supervisor that the rumors of a layoff was nonsense. This same supervisor sent someone else to inform me. It was quite the experiences, we felt like a bunch of slightly conscious cattle just waiting for their time to be slaughtered. It was a helpless 2 hours, waiting and seeing your fellow coworkers being walked out. I would not wish that on anyone. aside from that its must be nice to be on the managers list, I'm sure he knows you on a personal level. There are a few in my department that were actually a friend of a department manager and for some reason did not get on that special layoff list. I suppose that's life, thought one would think that in a country as great as ours nepotism would be illegal. that anxiety that your feeling is just part of being human so just ride the wave till retirement or till they lay you off.
