When I meet new people (which, I'll admit is not often but still) and mention that I work at Dell they are always highly impressed and give me a bunch of "nice!" and "good for you!" comments. All the while, I'm standing there thinking that this is my least favorite job ever and that I've never been treated as badly as here. I don't even think they'd believe me if I said something. I guess our PR definitely earns their pay.

They pay a ton of money to maintain the illusion of integrity and good standing.
Big company. You can get lucky and make big bucks without doing much. I know many engineers making 240k total comp without doing much and/or with low quality work in California.

Honey answer. Dell is a giant corporation. I have worked for several. they are all the same so Dell is no better or worse than any of them. HPE, IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, it is all the same. If you find a job and you have a decent manager the experience will be ok. But always know you are a number. None of them are a family or any BS like that, if they need to adjust numbers to meet a Wallstreet projection, they will.
I personally only give responses like “nice”, “good for you” if a person tells me they work somewhere or are doing something not very impressive.
I don’t know though.

Why are you posting this on a LAYOFF page? You work at Dell and think it's awful and you want us to say what? Do you think it has a good reputation amongst those of that have gotten laid off?? Yeesh...
