Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Do you remember your first day here?

How much of your initial expectations were actually met from the time you started working at TD?

It’s funny to me when I think of my first day here. I came in full of enthusiasm, ideas, the will to learn, very ambitious. I was overjoyed when I got the job here and made a big barbecue for my friends to celebrate getting the job. I couldn’t have imagined that my last day here would be even happier despite getting laid off.

AR was my first boss. met her for a few minutes first day, then didn't talk to her for 3 weeks. she sat 4 cubes from me. could I have walked the 20ft to her cube, maybe. but it's like moving to a new neighborhood, your new neighbors should welcome you.

then when I realized I'd be using none of the analytical tools TD touts, I knew this was nothing but spreadsheet jockeying. i left in 18 months

despite all the BS over the last 17+ years I have been here I can say the following.. Up til recently i have always felt stable. TD has always taken very good care of me, Yes, I could make more money elsewhere but the flexibility they offer for my family was more beneficial to me.. I should mention that i have always worked remote and only go to RB a few times a year so my perspective is probably much different than someone in SD. I am glad i am no longer a CSR (sse) however I believe that none of us will be safe in the months to come. Even people in the cloud should be very careful and pay attention.. If we don't get bought I don't see us surviving another 2 years. Get some AWS certs while you still have a job, that's where the future is, unfortunately TD royally missed the boat on this one.

Yes I remember my first day. My manager took me out to lunch and welcomed me and took the time to walk me around and introduce me to everyone on the floor. Still to this day, he is very helpful whenever I need something and although he is not my manager anymore, I still see him introducing new starters just like he did for me.
